Really Need Advice
Hello all. This is my first post on these wonderful forums. I have a growing problem that I hope you all can help me with.
I currently own a 2002 Maxima 6 speed. From all of the rediculous and horrible experiences with Nissan service.... I am 90% convinced on trading in my car for a 6MT Sedan. Since I currently finance this vehicle, what is the chance that I will get a reasonable price on my trade in and also on another decent deal on the G. I have had so much trouble with Nissan's service (NOT the Maxima... the car is wonderful) that I don't mind losing a few g's in the switch. Any one have experience with this or some similar experience? Anyone know what kind of price I can expect to pay?
Thank you all for your time,
Aux

Re: Really Need Advice
try selling it on the market first and seeing what you can get.. i got a really good quote at carmax that was actually above the kbb price... and acted as my benchmark when i went to the dealerships.. which worked to my advantage since trade in value is usually less than market value.
unfortunately, you'll lose more value than just the plain depreciation from it being a "used car".. the newly designed max is coming out, so that'll depreciate the car even more..

Re: Really Need Advice
If you like the Max, but hate the dealer, keep the car but find another dealer to work with. Or if another dealer is not available, find the joy in doing some of the stuff yourself!
If the above is not an option, you're in a tough financial spot. I expect the trade in on the Max to be soft, while the price on the much-anticpated manual sedan will not be very negotiable. Of course it depends on where you plan on purchasing as well...the old adage of supply and demand still holds true (not to mention dealer greed).
But to be fair, some dealers will work with you. I'm unsure of your experience with purchasing cars, but if you're trading in, the figure most important to you is the trade difference. The dealer can play games with the price of the new car and your trade value.
Let us know what area you're from, we might be able to give you a better idea on your potential purchase.

Thank you all for your advice. I dont mind losing the money just to be rid of this experience. These problems have happened with 3 different dealerships... and I don't really want to do the initial work myself. What's the point of my warranty? I just want to know if its possible to trade up and hope not to loose too much... let me know what you think.
Thanx again,

well, i'd go in expecting very little, but wanting a lot..(if that's possible) and maybe you'll end up coming up ahead.. don't go in expecting very little and showing it.. the sales guys will eat you up..

Re: Really Need Advice
Out right ownership or still paying to a finance company has no effect on the value of the car. You should expect to get 3-5Gs less than you could get if you sell it privately. I did that when I bought my G and I'm sorry I didn't at least try to sell it myself. That extra 3,000 could have meant more options on my G.
Re: Really Need Advice
Just because your buying a Infiniti, does not mean you will find better service at there dealership. I've heard a few complaints in here about dealerships giving them the run around on problems there having with the G35. If you really like your max, I say just keep it.
Re: Really Need Advice
Go to edmunds.com or kbb.com to find out what dealer trade is. That will give you an idea of the loss you can expect. The dealer will insult you when you first go in and come in under that number. You can haggle and end up getting somewhere in the ball park. You have to remeber, a 6 speed MAX is not common. Go to the maximadriver forum and try to sell it there as well. www.maximadriver.com or to freshalloy.com .
Of course the dealer will probably tell you that a 6 SPD MAX won't sell. Just ignore him though. Best of luck.
