Got New Rims, Need Tire Suggestions

So I picked up a new set of rims for my sedan, and granted I have wanted rims for a really long time and am really happy with my choice. I ended up with 18 x 8.5 in the front and 18 x 9.5 in the rear on Menzari Diablo Black rims.

Currently I am sitting on 245/40/18 tires all around, however I wanted to put a slightly wider tire in the back and do this without any rubbing issues since I am dropped on a 350z suspension. I talked to the rim/tire shop when I bought these rims and they said that they think a 265/40 or a 275/40 would start to rub and I would have to go with a 35 profile in order for it to not rub. Can anyone confirm this, and let me know what width of a tire can I fit onto the rear of an 03 RWD Sedan with a 9.5" rim in the back.

I would drop it to a 35 profile, on the rear if you are going with a 275. A 40 profile tire of that width will look to beefy on a 9.5inch rim.

The profile of your tire is effected by the width of the tire.

They are right, you should go with a 35 profile on a 275

thanks for all the replies
however my issue is that I live and drive on the streets of Brooklyn so with a 350z suspension on such a low profile I am scared to blow out a tire over some bump on the BQE or bend the rims, hence I was trying to stay with a 40 profile all around.
