Over the weekend, I pulled a redneck move and did some tire spinning from a stopsign, nothing major - went through gears 1 & 2 in manual mode (VDC off).

After I had my jollies, I put it back to VDC on and into auto mode (at this point still in 2nd gear). It didn't want to shift into a higher gear (3rd or 4th would have been appropriate). I went ahead and put it back into manual mode and try to shift it myself (displaying 2nd gear at this point). After a couple of tries, it finally went into 3rd....tried the same thing for 4th with no luck. I came upon a few more stopsigns and put it into auto mode again. Everything seemed ok until I got to the onramp of the highway.....wouldn't shift out of second (in auto). I popped it into N for a second (didn't touch the throttle), then back into D. Seemed ok after that.....but dang, what is the deal with this thing?

I've only had one other incident involving the tranny. Basically that time I was doing a few donuts in some snow (VDC off). When I got done, I couldn't turn the VDC back on.....and the slip/traction light stayed on. I turned the car off and back on....was fine after that.

Anyone else have odd situations like this? These are the only two times I really had any fun with VDC off.....makes me not want to do it again.

Any thoughts?

I found your problem:

You reap what you sow. You want a redneck car, buy a Camaro or Mustang. Otherwise, take care of your luxury sedan and it will take care of you. Case closed.

Thanks for your opinion....little uncalled for. This isn't exactly a frequent activity of mine, so the car should be able to take it. If not, I need to look for a better car.

The VDC issue is completely normal. I'd imagine with other issue you had was normal too because it sounds like you completely spun the tires through 1st and 2nd. This may have been enough to cause the tranny ECU to go into safe mode to make sure you didn't damage the tranny.

Good thought, I wasn't aware that our cars had a safe mode.....guessing this is something like BMW's "limp home" mode, which prevents damage (I'm a little more familiar with that). Thanks for the feedback.

ha ha no **** man. Otherwise why is there a damn button to turn the VDC off ? I call that button my fun button I drive my car pretty hard Hopefully it will take it. I drove the **** out of my 2000 GT Mustang and put a paxton blower on it at 113,000 miles and it lasted another 15K miles on moderate boost until my radiator crapped out in Houston traffic and cost me a headgasket. If this import car/ motor can't do at least that well I'll never buy Nissan or Infiniti again.

ive been fully drifting my car for years. im 20 now and grew out of buying tires constantly but yeah pull your vdc chip and just drive safe. if u dont wanna damage the chip that is. i drove without mine for months. most people just pull it to have fun. i like driving hard in traffic it stops me from getting into trouble with other stuff. i have videos and err thing of my car getting buck.

vdc off is a ton of fun, but i know that when i hit that little button my gas starts to plummet. it's like the car is exemplary when the vdc is on, but man when that little light says VDC OFF, i automatically develop a leadfoot!
