Fixed: Rear Decklid Creak
Fixed: Rear Decklid Creak
After battling with this car for the longest. I finally found a solution to my rear deck lid creak.
History: I have used expanding foam and filled in the gap between the two layers. Helped with bass rattle, but not creak. Painted liquid sound deadener over the metal. Didn't help at all
I also used weather stripping, but that was in vein...
I have read around that people use felt tape to fix squeaks throughout the car. Thinking this would be too tedious to try and find all the spots that would squeak/creak. I decided to take it a step further. Way Further
Felt and lots of it. A few yards to be exact. I've been using felt to cover sub boxes and had some left over. I covered the whole deck lid with felt. On the back of the plastic cover for the deck lid I added weather stripping.
I also have been having an issue with the 3rd brake light smacking the glass with heavy bass notes. So, I added weather stripping to that as well.
If you use baby seats in the back, then cut a couple of small pieces of felt and wrap the top metal bracket. That is one of the louder squeaks. I used electrical tape and that works as well (did that fix over a year ago).
Tools used.
Door panel removal tool. (not pictured, because I pulled these panels off months ago when I did my tint.)
Flat head screwdriver
Sockets 10mm 12mm and 14mm
Makita impact wrench (not req, but speeds up the process
)
Supplies:
3M Super 77 adhesive spray $5~10
Felt 36" x 3yds ($1.99 per yd)
Weather stripping (extra laying around, so I don't remember the cost)
The Blue is the liquid sound deadener, it comes in blue as well as black. (When I bought my first can it only came in blue
)

3rd brake light (stripping could be better, ut it worked
)

Supplies/tools

While you are at it and if you have spare felt, you might as well wrap the side panels

No after market suspension mods yet...
I've heard the same creaks in the loaner sedans, but I was told mine was due to my bass

Fixed rear deck lid creaking/squeaking
I had been troubleshooting this issue for a few weeks now and was able to fix it by removing the back seat and tightening the X brace bolts behind the rear seat. There were six 10mm bolts that were loose, but not loose enough to turn with your hand. I did, however get about 1 full rotation with a socket out of each bolt before they tightened back down. Easy fix that took about 45 minutes. I've heard of others that were not able to fix it via the X brace, but as for me, the tightening of those bolts did the trick. Good luck.
