Thinking of getting a G35, but...

Hey everyone, how goes it? I recently got into a car accident and my '01 Accord seems to be done for. I'll find out in a few days, but in the meantime I'm looking for a new vehicle. I've narrowed down my search to two vehicles (was 3 but I didn't like the BMW 3 series). My choice now is the G35 sedan and the Audi A6 3.2 Quattro, both will be either from '05 or '06.

I'm looking to get opinions, primarily what you like about the vehicle, what issues you have ran into. I've done all sorts of searches online and read reviews, but I'd like to get an idea from a daily driver. I really like how the G35 is quick. It sits a little high (higher than the BMW), but that's not a big deal. I truly enjoyed test driving it. The Audi I haven't driven, and I know it won't be quite as fast but I'm not necessarily looking for speed, but it sure is a bonus. Any info would be much appreciated. Thanks!

If you get a G I think you would want the 06 from what I have read. The Audi will be more of a luxury car while the G while be more of a sports sedan. I think that the G would be more reliable and far less expensive to maintain. I don't know about the Audi but the G generally gets pretty poor gas mileage so if you drive a lot and gas goes to $5 or $6 for premium then it is something you should consider. I have a friend with an A6 and if I went on a road trip I would take the A6 but for everyday driving I prefer my G. I think that he agrees with me but since he spent more to get the A6 he will never admit it.

Lol. Thanks for the input. I believe the G and the A6 get equivalent gas mileage, possibly the A6 getting 1 or 2 MPG better. I drive mostly highways, but I do about 300-500 miles per week. My concern is repair costs and how often, that will determine quite a bit of which vehicle I go with.

I agree, it depends on the type of vehicle you're looking for. However, the G looks much nicer than the A6 in my opinion unless you get the newer models (which is obviously much more expensive). The G is also cheaper to maintain, it's sportier, and easier to mod if you're planning on doing so. The A6 is very heavy, and is more of a family sedan. If you're under 35, I'd go with the G. It's faster, cheaper, better looking, and more reliable.

Get The G

I have not looked at consumer reports in a while but I think that Infiniti ranks far more favorably than Audi both in repair costs and reliability.

Also, did you post anything on an Audi forum? I bet that you have not heard back yet...

How did you know? :P

Haven't gotten a response, but could be the forum I posted on. I turned 24 recently, but I am more into the luxurious looking vehicles (not saying the G isn't, it made a wonderful impression on me). I'm not really looking into modding the vehicle, at least for now I'm not.

I'm not too worried about speed, just as long as it has more ***** than my Accord I'll be happy (which both do). But reliability is more what I'm leaning towards now and the G seems to have that. Plus it is about 3-5k cheaper.

What are the primary differences between the '05 and '06 model?

The one problem iv had thou is that the previous owner? Drove it so damn much and it has alota road rash? And evidently the paint is really really thin but other then that its a dream and a half ^-^

This is one of the best forums that I have seen, you will always be able to search for an answer to just about any question. That to me is a huge advantage.

The G should be more reliable and is certainly less expensive to fix if something does go wrong. It will still be more than maintenance from Honda but less than maintenance from Audi.

That will more than likely even out the gas mileage situation... get the G.

I have the 04 and could not begin to list of all the differences from 04 to 05. There were fewer changes from 05 to 06 but it is the last year of the 1st generation so it should be the most refined. I am sure that there is a detailed answer somewhere on this forum, try using search.

I think the only differences between 05 and 06 was 06 added bluetooth and rear active steering was available as an option on the coupe only.

My girlfriend drives an A6 - trust me, if you decide to get one get an extended warranty - the repair prices will kill ya. The G35 is very reliable. The Audi is a very German car and while it is fun to drive and the interior is very nice, I like my G35X better -they are both AWD.
