painting the dark gray side sills ( ur advices)

Hi all … I just bought a new pretty skyline ( 2001 sedan )
And I really need ur advice about painting the dark gray side sills also the front and rear bumpers,
I knew The best option is to replace them with the Nismo (Aero) sides, but unfortunately I don’t have enough money
So, is it ok to just paint them ?
And where can I find the best painter in NZ Christchurch if someone knows ( im new in this city )

Waiting u guys

naa color wont change as long as you get a good and reputable shop to do it right, with some flex agent since its plastic it should hold up just fine, alot of members have done it on this board including myself been painted for more then a year and no issues so far so go for it

lol, check the Tein Drop and Painted Sills Thread. I have plenty of pics in that thread that were taken right after the sills were painted. The car has actually settled quite a bit and is even lower than when the pictures were taken.

your dealer is an idiot - many of us have done it and it looks much, MUCH better!!! No, the color doesn’t change - Remind your dealer that the bumpers are plastic too... why don’t they mysteriously change color

There are pics all over the forum (I’m not going to post ***** pics of mine, but they are out here)… show some of them to your dealer and let him know he needs to think before he speaks.

This is shocking to me, but not a surprise at all because I've heard the same thing from numerous people on this site and from some shop owners. My question is how can a total auto painting noob like myself with a $250 compressor, $40 paint gun, a dirty garage, and 60 degree temps paint sills himself and can get the paint to stick and not fad, etc? It's not rocket science to paint plastic. Do these shop owners fail to understand that many components on cars are both plastic and painted? I guess they're just lazy. The quotes I got to do the work were insane (up to $1000). I spent $400 on a compressor, paint gun, and supplies and did the work in about 6 hours with painting taking a mere 15 minutes. The best part is I have air tools now which I use for everything around my house.

^^^ $1000? I got my window trim, door handles, side sills, bottom of front bumper, entire rear bumper, mirror frame and taillights painted for $1000.

just the side sills (plus front & rear lower) was only $250-$300.
