I've driven off with my parking brake off down the block and never realized since my parking brake seems to be weak. I've read a lot of posts that talk about how our parking brakes wear out quick. I've also downloaded a manual that includes how to tighten your parking brakes and its fairly simple. The DIY video regarding how to replace your brakes breifly goes over how to tighten your parking brakes. Also about the parking brake notification, you'll just have to make it habit... Best of luck.

Then go look at your car...because it has them!

Okay, not technically. If you pull your rear rotors off, there is a small drum brake that engages the internal hub of the rotor. That's your parking brake....a little dinky drum brake.

my driveway is inclined so i put my parking brake on every day. when you put your parking break on it takes SOOO much stress off the transmission. i suggest putting the parking brake on even on the slightest hill, doing so will result in a longer lasting transmission oh and engage the parking brake before you put your car in park, then proceed to turn the engine off.!

what difference does it make if I engage the parking brake before shifting to park?

Then the car's weight is held by the brakes and not by the transmission.

Ever shift out of Park when on an incline and notice the car comes out of park harder and almost bangs? Try it out. Find a good sized hill and park on it and just use Park, let off the brake so the weight of the car is held by P and then shift into drive. Then do it with the parking brake set BEFORE going into park...you'll see the difference

Brakes are cheaper than transmissions.

is there any way we can make the adjustment on our parking brake for automatic? I've seen DIY for the sedan manual but haven't seen the auto.

I am the usual driver for my G, but a family member borrowed my car and drove it for about 14 miles with speeds up to 50 mph with the parking brake engaged. I suppose my parking brake is toast now and will need replacement parts or adjustments next time I get the rear brakes done. I've tried to test out the parking brake by putting the car in D and with the parking brake engaged. Of course, the parking brakes don't hold and my car starts moving forward.

A bit ticked off how the driver would not notice the drag as the car tried to move forward. I can see how that person didn't realize the parking brake light was on, since I on occasion, started to drive away with the brakes still engaged.

Can anyone chime in and tell me if the parking brakes will hold the car when the brakes are fully set and the trans is in D?

Thanks.
