Road noise/ride quality- 20 inch wheels-

Trying to decide on returning lease or keeping- all comes down to ride qual/road noise.

2006 G35 sedan, Eibach lowering springs, 20 inch rims with Toyo Proxes 4 255/35/20 tires.

I really need to get, most of all, the road noise drained out from the cabin. 2nd would be ride quality, but honestly that really doesn't bother me AS MUCH. I think if you get one you get the other. It's mainly, for me, just how loud it is inside the car, especially on the freeway.

I've had these wheels / tires since 2 days after I got the car back in 06 so I don't remember how quiet the stock ride was.

Can I get to, or surpass, the OEM cabin road noise with different tires and the same 20 inch rims?

Is there any other tricks to cut down on road noise? New/different shocks??

quieter tires.....check out the reviews.....when tires get rolled on, they become louder and louder and most likely the road noise you are hearing.

You can do what this if it bothers you that much!

You won't get to OEM noise levels no matter which tire you choose, although a quieter tire will help. Those Proxes 4's aren't known for their silence. Check out the Nitto Invo or Bridgestone RE760 Sport, both are pretty quiet. The real problem is you're riding on 20's, which is 2" bigger than any stock wheel for a Sedan. And your sidewall is only 3.5", which is .75" shorter than stock. The only thing to do is greatly increase the sound deadening material or get smaller wheels.

Once your tires wear past about 40-50%, tire noise/road goes up dramatically. Ride quality will suffer as well due to less tread. If you really want to reduce tire noise and improve ride quality, go with rims no larger than 18" and try to stick with near OEM size tire widths.

Thanks for all the suggestions... going with smaller wheels tires is not an option.. I have to keep "the look". It's a completely different car with the wheels / tires in terms of looks and stance.

To the poster with dynamat.. how many layers did you do and how silent is it? **Edit** I see you did one layer over the entire car.. good job!! You won't find me doing that anymore, did that to my last car and it is a serious PITA.

So... how quiet is it?

If you go down to a 245mm wide tire it will help a little.

Second Skin is some of the best stuff you can get to quiet down your car. This stuff helps a ton but does add extra weight and is not cheap. For a few hundred dollars you could lower the road noise at least 2-3dB if not more.
