Rear Defogger not coming on

My rear defogger is not coming on. When I put the key in and go to start the car all of the lights on the dash, including the rear defogger button, light up as they should, but when i go to turn the defogger on, the light does not come on. everyhting else on the instrument panel (ac/mode fan up/down) all those buttons work fine, the light does not come one when i press the defogger key. Why isnt this coming on?

*It does have a metra dash kit installed, but like i said everyhting else works just fine.

**The driver's side power outlet recently went out as well. Could this be a combined issue?

did you check all the fuses...

defroster fuse is normally on its own.

get a volt meter and go back to see if you get voltage there after you confirmed the fuse is working.

I have checked the fuses and as stated replaced the cig lighter fuse. Would this fuse be under the hood instead of in that lower panel? I noticed a "mirror heater" fuse, but it was fine.

Also, currently no voltmeter on hand

Im checking right now. Thanks

Edit: There is a fuse in the fusible link (fuse F 50A) that may be out.
I will also check fuses in the IPDM E/R as well.

I think this should solve my problem. I was only looking in the fuse box in the lower panel of driver side.

Ok, all fuses checked ok.

Here is what I discovered.

After toying with it for a while, i figured maybe the button is bad, since its an aftermarket metra kit. Pulled everything out and started pressing the button. Every 4th press, i could hear a click from the rear of the vehicle like the defroster was coming on, but still no light.

Any suggestions?

In the meantime, next time i need it, i'll check to see if its working after i hear teh click. It just doesn't make sense to me.

if you have the time, pull it out and put the OEM in and confirm.

My rear defroster is out as well. Anyone found the possible cause (e.g. fuse - if so, is it known what fuse it is exactly)? I plan on checking my fuses this coming week to trouble shoot the issue.

If not, I may have to check through the repair manual guides. I'll post back if I find something.

ISSUE RESOLVED: Yes, months later, but i was motivated as i was actually going to be traveling into cold weather and was going to need it.

Pulled entire dash apart and found a small white plug that was disconnected under the steering column. Plugged it back in and everything is working great!

Guess i forgot to reconnect it when i spliced into the ignition wires for the alarm.

Other than that, I've discovered that the rear defroster generally won't go bad on its own, unless there are breaks in the grid or fuses/relays are bad.

Have you ever pulled back the panel below the steering column? Its the one that has one screw right by the trunk release. Unscrew that, pull the panel down, and look right above (and towards the rear) of the trunk release, vdc, and dimmer buttons. You gotta look further back beyond those 3 plugs. I found a white plug dangling there and plugged it back in, sure enough defroster came right back on. Let me know if you have any trouble and i can try to take a picture, but just pull the panel and make sure everything is plugged in. Leaving socal and heading east on sunday, so i'll try to check back here often. Good luck

PS. you didnt mention if you checked the relays. Theyre in the IPDM next to the battery. There are also 2 rr def fuses in there. id check those first if you havent already. Are you using an aftermarket ac control? (metra). I found that if some of the ac controls are working then they should all pretty much be working, so dont waste your time reseating the connection behind the dd opening, wont do anything but waste time
