Unidentified Part, Unidentified Sound

Greetings,

Great website!

I purchased an 05 G35x on Valentines Day this year and have been in love with it ever since. While I've come to know her well, there are two unrelated, unanswered questions I have, and I was hoping you could help me resolve them.

First: The piece in the attached picture is of a part that was in the glovebox, unattached to the vehicle. It is painted twilight pearl blue, as the exterior of my car is, so I surmise it belongs on the exterior. While it is marked with some sort of identification (see photos), I've been unsuccessful yielding any info on where it belongs; do you know where this piece belongs?

Second: When I start-up the vehicle and shift from 'park' to 'reverse', then begin moving, a half-second-lasting double-click sound is emitted from, seemingly, underneath the vehicle. Again, when I shift from reverse to drive, and begin moving, I hear this sound. I implore you, please inform me of the source of this sound and how it may become muted.

I appreciate any of your assistance, and look forward to being an active member of these forums.

Best,

Panama Red

Welcome to the forum

That would be the tow hook cover from the front bumper. You likely have a front license plate thus why its not on the bumper.

The clicking sound is most likely your rear axles clicking. Its a common problem which can be covered under warranty if you still are under the 4yr-60K. If you do a search for "axle click" you will come across a ton of threads.

The noise is definately a rear-axle click. Very common with these cars. Easy fix, do a search for the TSB you'll find it somewhere here.

that exterior piece is to cover the tow-hook on your front bumper, just simply snap it back on and when you need to take it off, use a flathead and it pops right off

the clicking noise is definitely the rear axle click, which is a common issue on the G's. If you're under warranty, the dealership should fix it free of charge otherwise there is a DIY on how to fix it.

Hope this helps

The first piece is a cover for the tow hook located towards the front of the car.

Now the clicking noise is most definitely the common axle click issue. Check to see if you're still covered under warranty, if not there is an easy fix. Just look for "axle click" using the search function!
