Exhaust Confusion- I searched

I have researched on the search and have read quite a bit but I am still confused.

Does a Full Catback such as the Stillen Gen 2 include all the same parts as

a Axelback such as HKS with a Coupe Midpipe and 350z Y-pipe?

Sorry, a newbie.

Thanks
Justin

No. A cat back system will include a y-pipe, mid-pipe, and muffler/mufflers. Axle back only covers what's behind the mid pipe.

That's not directly answering my question but you gave me an answer to what I was asking in a way....

What I am asking is are the two systems I mentioned above, the same thing?

1. Stillen Catback

2. Axelback + coupe midpipe + 350z Y

so another words... is number 2 a catback system when pieced as such?

I did answer your question but I'll phrase it in a different way. Both 1 and 2 as listed are full catback systems. Hope this clears things up.

Thanks for clarifying. I get it now!

Is it just me, but does the G35 with HKS Axelback with coupe mid-pipe and 350 Y-Pipe sound better than an aftermarket catback system.

I mean... the famous growl that stock G35's (coupes) have is lost when upgraded to an aftermarket catback.

Is the HKS that good or is it something in the mid-pipe and Y-pipe that makes it have that growl sound that is emitted from stock coupes.

Exhaust sound is very subjective as to who likes what. I have never heard an aftermarket catback system on a sedan so I can't give you any feedback on them. Also many pieces will affect the exhaust sound including intakes, cats, and the components of a catback system. I ran an HKS with the CM and Hr y-pipe and really liked that combo for a while but the drone got annoying so I sold the HKS. I have tried multiple combinations of intakes and exhausts and currently run the R2C intake, polished z tube, HR Y pipe, CM, and stock 05 muffler. It's my favorite combination so far. Has a little depth to it and sounds great but it's not loud. I'm too old for a loud, in-your-face exhaust.

i have berk hfc's, stock y, coupe mid, stock 05 sedan muffler, and i have a little of that growl. i wish there was a way to just amplify that sound rather than get a full exhaust and change the sound.

I have a Stillen Gen2, It's great, but I think I am ready for a change. I am planning on taking it off in the next day or two and posting it on the classified forums. I think I am becoming an old man.

Here is what the stillen gen2 looks like under the car.

I call dibs on the gen2. PM me when you list it. Got any good video clips of the gen2?? Sorry, back on track. I personally wanted Borla, but it doesn't fit the X.

Motordyne products seem to be the only parts I would put on my car. Their VQ exhaust sounds so promising with no drone

Stillen gen 2 cat back here. Originally with k&n and ztube. Too much drone for my taste so I switch out the ztube for the original gtube - huge difference! Now I'm lovin it!

The point is finding the perfect exhaust sound might include intake modifications.

Ok.. I do not want drone so there goes the HKS!

So some people say stock 03-04 axelback sounds better than 04-05 axelback. Is that true? Can I get users opinions?

Also, does the 350z Y-pipe make that much difference in the "purr" Why can't I just use the 05-6 Y-pipe from a 05-6 sedan or from a coupe???

I really like the g35 coupe exhaust. I think it is pretty much perfect, I just want it a tad louder (a tad)

Thanks everyone.

You have been much help.
