3rd Brake Light Issue 03 Coupe

Went to get my 03 coupe inspected on the 8th of Dec. and car FAILED inspection because of the 3rd brake light. From reading all of the posts there are too many complaints that have this issue. For this issue not being resolved we must not be getting our point across or there is a comprehension problem on the people we are trying to address. In N.C. you have a total of 30 days to fix whatever problem that has failed your inspection, and adding to before you can get your car registered it has to pass inspection. This problem affects safety of driving and it also affects your lively hood. I will be filing a complaint along with you guys as well as making some phone calls to Infiniti as well as Nissan.

The problem really is age of car. We are complaining about cars 5-8 years old. Really all comes down to what is reasonable expectation of a lifetime of an led taillight to function before failure. Is it five years? 15 years? Who knows

My point is if your halogen taillight burns out after 6 years, you just go buy a new bulb. Lets not fool ourselves here.....we just don't want to pay $200 for a brake light.

The Benz issue was a design issue causing the socket to melt and make the light fail. Might be apples and oranges?

I dunno....just playing devils advocate

^Understandable... BUT. Most of the time, the issue isn't with the LEDs, but with the board somehow (like mine for example)

The issue is obviously a safety issue. 3rd brake lights are DOT required for a reason.
As it is defective safety equipment, it should be replaced under a recall, despite the age of the cars.

Also, some have reported having this problem early on or with low miles.

There is clearly a design flaw. One that should be addressed, or at the very least, acknowledged by Nissan USA.

I was just behind a silver coupe that was sitting at a stop light. Brake lights were on. 3rd light was dim and flickering. A safety item of this sort should be made with sustainability in mind. If the regular lights can survive more than 6-8 years with zero problems, then why can't the 3rd brake light do the same?

My 04 only has 30K miles and the light is out. I tried to file but I'm from Canada and after filling everything out, there was no option to put in my address without a zipcode so the whole exercise was a fail for me. Strangely enough, when I went on the site, there were only 14 filed complaints that I could see. Does anyone know if Canadians can file complaints with the NHTSA?

Count me in, though on mine, one of the bulbs just went out. Given the car is 5 years old, I am chalking this up to an LED burning out. But filled out the form anyway, as it is still an annoying $400 fix....
