13.96 @ 101 no mods!!!
What a great day at the track! I've been waiting for ideal weather in hopes of attaining a new personal best in the 1/4 mile and today was the day. Actually, the weather wasn't that great, but enough to do the job. I started in the left lane as the right lane was reserved for slick cars only. My et's ranged from 14.32- 14.56 with horrible 60' times. The track prep in the left lane just plained sucked and my hopes for breaking into the 13's dissappeared quickly. I later noticed the track was allowing street tire cars to run in the right lane. I then proceeded to the right lane drove around the water and slightly hazed the tires to remove any dirt to better my chances of sticking. Upon launching the car I immediately noticed much better traction and the car bogged. It was good enough for a 14.33 @ 100.55 with 2.26 60' time and I knew I could better that and hotlapped the car. This time I did a slightly longer burnout and raised my launch rpms. The car felt great out of the hole with a very slight bog, but I banged all four gears and hoped for the best. At the ticket booth I knew it was a good pass and the slip proved it with a 13.97 @ 100. 64 and awesome 60' time of 2.02 respectively. I was estatic and finally achieved my goal of hitting 13's in a bone stock G35 sedan. I later made some more passes hoping I could better the time especially with trap speeds hitting over 100 mph. It finally came with an awesome run of 13.96 @ 101.03 suprising me that a four door sedan with 260hp could go that fast! With two passes in the 13's I was very happy and decided to call it a day. Ah what the heck I said, let me make one more attempt. I ended up next to a mustang 5.0 with some minor work done. I had a better launch then his, but I couldn't see him in my rear view mirror. I knew he was fairly close in my blind spot. By the time I was in fourth I could see him in my rear view and he had no chance of catching up. On that pass I ran 14.16 to his 14.68 and it was a great way to end the day.
I don't know what my car weighed as the scales were not working, but I did have the spare tire and jack removed.
God Bless!

Nice run! I new a 13 sec was in the 4 door. Kicking a Mustang is a great way to end the day. A Mustang was cutting in front of me trying to **** me off today (trying to get me to race). When I had enough I just dropped it into 4th and caught up and passed him at 100 mph (Just loved the look on his face).... priceless.

Re: 13.96 @ 101 no mods!!!
Don't forget to update the Top 5 Sedan/Coupe thread, we need mo betta sedan times on there.
I have ONE 13.89 run from last summer. I have numerous 14.3's (I ran a couple Saturday night), but I cannot consistently get the 2.0x 60 foot time that it takes.
I ran Saturday night, but couldn't get in the 13's again. Had fun though, I beat a SRT-4 a couple times (lost to him once), beat everything else I raced cept a Z06 (I had him thru the 1/8 mile then he ran 13.218 at 110 mph) with a real bad driver.
the list includes an Escalade pickup, a Z28, a firehawk, a Civic (twice), a 19 second focus svt, lots of fun.
I ran consistent 14.3's,14.4's with a couple 14.5's and a 14.7 I am getting better though. My sedan ran consistent 14.5's the last time I was out, now I am consistently 14.3 with a better 60 foot. Couple more times, I will run 13's again.
the 60 foot is all it takes to get the sedan into the 13's. My 13.89 run was with a 2.09 60ft, and my 14.3's are with 2.2x 60 foots. the thumbrule is: for every 0.1 second in the 60 foot you save, you drop 0.2 off your quarter.

Where are you located? You must have a rare G? Cause, most 6MT's need mods to get those numbers. My G feels like it runs 15, so I am on the other end of the scale. It's SLOW AS HELL!!!!!!!!!!

Typhoon,
Bobby and I are running 6MT's which explains some of your confusion. I run my car in Phoenix at 1243 foot elevation. That works out to a 0.2 second difference to sea level. I don't know where bobbyd is at. But he is right. You get a good launch and this car is good for 13's stock. All you need is practice.
tires can drop it even further. say 13.5-13.6 stock with a great driver, then even lower with drag radials or slicks

Re: 13.96 @ 101 no mods!!!
Out here in LA at LACR a stick sedan could only do mid 14's. It all depends on track and alt. the fastest my auto ran was 14.9. so a manual would do around 14.4-14.8. the altitude there is 2,710 ft. above sea level.
but to correct for alt you take your time and mult. your ET by .9679 and your speed by 1.0337

Re: 13.96 @ 101 no mods!!!
what are the 60 foot times for your auto? that will tell alot.
but yes, I believe the LACR raceway will keep you from the 13's. with the lack of humidity in Phoenix, the 1200 ft elevation doesn't make a huge difference.

Re: 13.96 @ 101 no mods!!!
To answer some questions, I'm located in Toronto, Canada eh! The track I ran at is Toronto Motorsports Park which is about 1 hr out of Toronto. When comparing times with others across the country weather and driver skill are the biggest factors. The conditions for my best time were:
Barometer: 29.6
Temperature: 54 degrees
Dew point: 40 degrees
Track elevation: 700 feet
Wind: 15 mph (cross/tailwind)
DA 1080 feet
In other parts of the country the density altitude can hit minus during the winter months where its possible to go even faster! Again traction is very important and with a stick car its hit or miss, very difficult. My best 60' time was 2.02 and I lowered my tire(crappy turanzas) pressures to 27psi for the rear driver and 23.5psi for the rear passenger. My launch technique is bringing the rpms up to about 2400 rpms. I try not to let the clutch out to fast while slowly giving it more gas. This is something I feel and it depends on how much traction is available, so every scenario is different. I do have a video of the run, I'll see if my friend can get it to me and hopefully someone can host it.
Thanks

i was running a 2 psi difference between rear tires same as you, but at 30 psi.
excellent 60 foot times though

Hey Bobby,
I was there at the track with the Camaro. I came to talk to you when you were staging. Congrats on your times... simply amazing. I mentioned it to my friend who was there with his stock A4 LS1 TA (with awful 2.73 gears ) who got similar times to yours with 2 more Cylinders... he thought it was amazing a "daily driver" like mine could hit those times.
I hit the 12's with my Z28 that same day.... so the weather must've been good. :-)
I put her to sleep but will probably be taking the G35 this coming weekend if the weather is good and the track is open.
Congrats again... maybe u can get even better this coming weekend if it's colder and less humid.
