False - I have a LSX swapped sedan and drivin on the streets and its street legal. Depends on the state and county you live in. Different states and their counties do Smog or emissions testing alot different from others. I know in Alabama there is no emissions or smog testing required. Georgia on the other hand does is by county and only a select few are required to do emissions testing.

 

Agreed...that's not even true of some modern cars.

Some mitsubishi's feature dodge built engines, and vice versa. Another example is the Lotus Elise, featuring a Toyota Celica engine.

The part about it being the same year or newer does however apply in most situations.

 

wow, you guys are really misinterpreting that post. he's saying where he's at it's illegal, who's cares if it's legal where you are? as for the same engine manufacturer, yeah any car company can put what ever engine they want in their cars but YOU cannot. seriously guys

 

It can be legal where ever you live you just have to go by the strict rules that apply to your car.
