Avon Tech550

Just put a set of these on the sedan to replace the stock Goodyear RS-A with 48000 on them. I'm pretty impressed with these Avons, especially for $109 from tirerack.com, they are a steal. W speed rated, and they are amazingly quiet compared to the Goodyears.

What size did u put?
Update us after a few thousand miles if you still feel the same about these tires. Most tires are great when new but after some miles is what matters.
I am planning to buy tires for my G later next year and I have my eyes on the AT M550. They have good review and for the performance reasonablly priced.
I am thinking of using 235/50/17 instead of 215/55/17 as they will fit nicely.

Keep us updated.

I bought the 215/55WR17 OEM size. I was thinking of the 235/50's as well, but didnt want the extra rolling resistance. I commute 120 miles/day round-trip, so fuel mileage is a concern for me.

I just put the 235/50/17's on my sedan, and I think they are great. I have had them for about 2 weeks now, and they are great. Quiet, grippy, and smooth. The only downside I have noticed is that they seem to flat spot when they sit for a while. This may also have to do with the extreme cold we have had lately. That goes away after about 5 minutes of driving, and only occurs if they sit overnight. We just got some snow today, and I am looking forward to trying them out in it. I bought them because they seemed to have an aggressive tread for snow use, plus the other obvious reasons (price, Ultra high performance, size upgrade, etc).

khsonic03,
They are ALL Seasons right so why the flat spot?
What were you running before?

Anyway let me know if you have noticed any noticable reduction in the mpg because of the extra width.

I may check back with you guys fall of 2005 when I plan to get new tires on how your experience has been till then.

Thanks

I have two sets of wheels. On my summers (19's) I have Michelin PS2's which are absolutely incredible tires. Before these, I had the stock Bridgestone El Turanza's (215/55/17). I am not sure why they flat spot, but it really doesn't bother me. It really isn't that bad, and like I said, it only lasts about 5 minutes after the tires warm up. Other than that, I am a big fan for the price/performance, etc. I have not noticed a decrease in mileage, but I really haven't done any calculations to back that up.

How many miles on the Michelin PS2's?
Have been considering these as well.

My main concern was how fast they wear, I've heard others say they
wear out faster than the normal PS.

How long have they lasted for you?

Well, I only use them in the summer (strictly). I have put about 8000 miles on them, and see no abnormal wear. They seem to be wearing pretty well, but it is still hard to say at this point. I know that I will only use them for summer, so wear wasn't a big issue in my eyes, especially since in CT, winter takes up 70 percent of the year
