No go on reseating the cluster connections. Since being intermittent, now it doesn't work at all. Guess I'll check the grounds and the manumatic contacts. This car sucks without manumatic mode. I never realized how much I used it.

Well, good news. It was definitely the cluster. Tanin replaced the one they sent me previously under warranty and manual mode is back! Tanin Auto Electronix | Auto Repairs, Sales and DIY Parts

That's really interesting, I didn't realize the instrument cluster handled the MM switches. I have never had to really research it in the FSM because I have the 6MT but now I see on the schematic that the MM goes to the cluster which then tells the TCM via CANBUS the MM values.

My gut is telling me the instrument cluster needs a better chassis ground, preferrably an actual grounding kit that also hits the ECM ground and TCM ground all in one kit. Poor grounding connections wear out circuitry like the stuff in the instrumentation.

Nice. I wonder if they would know how to fix the MM if I sent the cluster in to them. I would hate to pay for all the work and then turn out that the MM didnt get fixed.

On their site it doesnt look like manumatic is an issue they try to repair when u send in an instrument cluster.

They must know how to fix MM. When I got my original cluster back and MM wasn't working I called them and they wanted me to return it immediately under warranty. Once I got the cluster returned MM was fixed. Not sure if they know how to fix that portion individually or not. Would be a worth a call into them to see. As far as taking it apart and re-soldering? I tried that on my original cluster and it didn't work (didn't fix the fuel gauge issue anyways).

Hmm ok. I guess I wont mess with it myself then. Probably a million points to solder in there anyway haha.

I just called that cluster repair place listed by 4mermarine and they said they do not fix manumatic issues. They only fix lights and broken gauges. So I guess I wont be sending it in to them.

Dave, when u replace the cluster does it still show the original mileage? Or does it show whatever mileage was on the new cluster?

I can confirm manual mode not working is because of the cluster

i’ve replaced my cluster for this reason purely and it fixed it and it works 100/100 of the time!! i will be making a youtubr video on it tomorrow to shed light on the true issue. I purchased a refurbished cluster on Tanix auto electronics and went to a near by auto electric place to install it. about $500 in all. works perfectly, you can even send your own cluster in to them.

I actually think they do not know how to repair the cluster when it comes to the manumatic issue. They probably just take your old cluster and send u a known working cluster. Thats why when Dave said his manumatic didnt work after they fixed his fuel gauge, they just told him to send it back. I believe they just sent him another cluster instead.

I called them and they said they cant help me out with my manumatic issue. So no point for me to send it in.

thats the thing, i didnt send my unit in. i still have my original gauge cluster, i bought a refurbished one since i didnt want to pull my cluster out. you can see they had the cluster open repairing the insides because it has a warranty seal sticker where you can open it up. either way, i know for a fact that my manual mode worked 0/100 times before with my previous cluster and after swapping it never DOESNT work. it works every time no fail. but like i said the website GIVES the option to send in your unit , why would they just send you some random other unit ?

I think they do fix issues with the gauges. But when it comes to manumatic, they probably toss it and send u a different one.

Im currently shopping for a used one with similar mileage to mine. How much did u get yours for?
