I can confirm a new gauge cluster will fix the manumatic issue. I finally installed the used one I had bought and took the car out for a drive for a couple minutes and the manumatic worked perfectly! I even swapped my old cluster back in again to make sure that was the problem and the MM stopped working. Put the new one back on and its perfect again.

So if anyone else is having intermittent MM issues or no MM at all and you have confirmed the microswitches in the shifter assembly are working fine, the cluster is probably the issue.

So ever since I made the post above, my car had been parked and had not been driven. Today I started her up all happy that I can finally drive in MM mode and what do u know….manumatic issues again!!! 😡😡😡😡😡😡.

What a piece of śhit Nissan is with their electronics!!!!

But this time its acting differently. It goes into MM mode whenever I slide the shifter over, so thats good. But it will only shift down no matter if I push or pull the shifter. So it wont let me shift up….just down. What the fudge!?!? It worked perfectly last time I test drove it for 10 or 15 mins.

Im starting to suspect my car has an electrical issue, maybe a small short of some sort. And when the cluster stays plugged in for an extended period of time, something inside slowly heats up til it gets fried.

Anyway….more testing and troubleshooting to come in the next few days.

You've had other instrument cluster issues right?

Might be worth pulling it off and cleaning the instrument cluster ground, or just running a supplementary ground wire from the battery and daisy chaining it to all the grounds in the cabin, ECM, stereo, instrument cluster.

With my old cluster I only had the MM issue. With this new cluster its MM and I have realized the fuel gauge isntt going down since Ive been driving it the past few days. With this new cluster my MM is intermittent right now.

I think im gonna pull an extra ground wire. And also resolder all the points on the cluster as well. Lets see what happens.

Look on YouTube. There is a combo key on door open key off door closed repeat 2 X's and start. You may be surprised. It worked for me just two days ago

Well I have some good news!!

The used cluster I bought with the intermittent manumatic issues has been fixed and tested! The tiptronic works perfectly 100% of the time and so does the fuel gauge!! I re-soldered whatever I could get my fine-tipped
soldering tip on, then went over the whole board with a heat gun. This did the trick!! Ive been testing the manumatic for a few days now and its worked flawlessly. I even ran a whole tank of gas from full to empty and the fuel gauge was right on.

So theres the fix!

Pretty soon I will attempt to repair my original cluster. If I get it working, I will have it for sale on here.

Well I’ll be damned! My manumatic issues are back again and behaving the same way it was before I tried to fix it. I will try it again one more time and see what I can do differently. If it doesn’t get fixed, I might just end up selling this damn car. 😒

Yes!!!!!! Worked straight away thanks
Quote: This little tip right here saved me hours of possible troubleshooting. I just got my instrument cluster board replaced and since reinstalling my Tiptronic (sport shift or whatever) would not work at all. I could put the shifter into that mode but it never when to manual. I adjusted my tilt column in and out, up and down, then my manual mode started working all the sudden. Crazy fix, but it worked for me. Thanks Dave!
it's crazy but it worked. Thanks so much

what is the sequence?? Up/down first then in/out? How many times? In park? Any details would be appreciated!

It sounds like this would be some random movement of the column that's remaking some intermittent connection. It's not like a specific sequence is going to be programmed into the column adjustment to enable a function. Try any adjustments and see if it makes any difference. If it doesn't, try something else and increase the adjustment until you either find a good spot or run out of adjustment. Hopefully it starts working in a position that you can live with. If you find an adjustment that makes/breaks the MM operation, maybe you can find a harness or connector that is being moved and fix the actual source of the problem.

as mine was already set fully out I pushed it in and out a couple times and up and down at least twice then reset it to it's fully out position.
this was while car was off and in park

Heres a video of someone doing the reset. It probably wont work for most people having MM issues though.

Its not random. It actually is a weird sequence Nissan implemented to reset the manumatic mode. However, most manumatic failures are either because of a faulty switch in the shifter assembly, or a cluster gauge thats going bad.

If you look inside the shifter assembly, its a very simple mechanism which consists of 3 microswitches. One senses when the shifter is pushed to the right into MM mode. And the other 2 switches detect when the shifter is pushed forward or pushed backward. So its pretty easy to look in there and see if everything is working.

all you have to do is adjust the steering wheel position in out up down, the doors have no affect

My steering wheel position is completely manual. I dont see how that would make a difference.
