Anyone ever remove a compression rod for the awd model? All diy'a are for coupes or rwd.
It looks like the axle needs to come out? Or is there another way? Comp rod won't clear the axle so looking for some advice before taking it apart and finding an issue with removal. Thanks

Yes, you gotta remove the axle. It's in the way. You don't need to remove the axle completely, just take it out of the hub. Pretty simple actually. Remove the nut on the end of the axle, remove the top nut for the upper ccontrol arm and then slide the axle out of the knuckle. Then you can reattach the upper control arm and proceed like the RWD models.

the remove the compression rod you don't need to take out the axle, only when you put the new compression rod in you'll to take out the axle bolt and take out the upper control arm, lean the knuckle to you but becarefull you don't rip the axle booth and push the axle in and you'll able to put the new compression rod in .....hope this help
Sorry I didn't mean completely remove it, but shove it through like Mustang stated. Axle shoved through just fine but was unable to remove it while on car, balljoint would not seat. Since spindle was coming off to do my hub I just took it off when I had it on the ground. The compression rod itself was completely shot. Bushing on back was worn out and cracked bad, balljoint end had no grease left and was gone. Having some issues seating the new one, brand new seat fits in spindle but threaded end is barely poking through the nut.
WOW seem like you have a lot of work to do, i need to replace my compression rod also, it only took me 15min the do it. Hey if you thinking changing the sway bar link, i say don't do it if it not bad, but if you do there is no G35x sway bar end links at your local parts store, they only have the rear wheel drive model end links, and if you go to the dealer it will cost you around 200$$$$$$
That's the issue with dealing with cars that run in sand and salt nothing comes apart easy. Most of te bolts nuts cotter pins are all original. Takes awhile to get the crap off before even attempting to turn a wrench. I changed the sway bar links as well, they were also worn out. Broke bolts off but they came out. I paid 20 for the links and 80 for the ball joint seat they attach to through lower control arm. I thought the price was right since I live in Canada where parts are double what they are below border.

Does the balljoint seat match the old one that came out? Is it fully seated in the spindle?
I don't recall having any issue getting my comp rod back into the knuckle. IIRC, it practically fell in and allowed me to thread the nut on by hand and then tighten it up.

Ya it was the seat. I looked at the new and old ones and they were different. Figures I got the wrong part, it's not the first time. Just reused old ones and they seated fine. Guess I'll take these back where I ordered them from, Nissan.
Took car for a test drive what a difference! No more knocking clunks over bumps, no more humming groaning from the hub bearing. Feels great now I need to consider giving it back to my wife, but not sure if I want the truck back just yet since the car is riding so nice.

I looked online at the parts breakdown for the front suspension on the sedan. It shows the seat as part (40173) in sec 400. When you look up the part number for seat it gives 40173-33P00, which I received from Nissan. Now I'm confused because I seemed to receive the correct seat but it was different than what was in there. Other seats listed on there but for upper control, lower etc.
Does anyone know the part number for the correct seat for AWD comp arm?

I'm convinced they are not the same. I've seen similar things done on cars to prevent incorrect components from being installed on the assembly line. There is a difference in the AWD and RWD compression rods and I assume the different seats is a way to prevent improper installation.

I did not need to even loosen the axle to replace either of my G35X compression rods, although without doing so it takes extra care and patience to not damage the booth - it's a tight fit. About to do it again, though, as well as replace front lower control arms, so I'll try to remember to list out what steps are necessary for the G35X.
So many DIYs out there for the RWD, it's a shame we can't get a break on the AWD side. Regarding the front end, I've been through about every imaginable torture one could have, so anybody feel free to PM me. I don't visit this board often.

No, they're definitely not the same. I accidentally received the RWD compression rod from a distributor, but went ahead and tried to fit it anyway. Besides the general shape of the RWD CR interfering with the AWD's front axle boot, the tapered seat of the RWD compression rod did not fit correctly.
As an FYI, carid.com has the compression rods with BJ and busings pre-installed for only $45.31, and ----FOR AWD!!!!

I think, i'm going to order one just because it's so cheap. If i never use it, i'll just Ebay it
