Replacing Compression Rod

2005 AT RWD Sedan

I was getting my oil changed this morning at the local Infiniti dealer and the tech told me that my compression rod bushings are toast. They quoted me $1,070.00 and I laughed in his face, I can be lazy but not that lazy... I am lazy enough to buy new compression rods with new bushings already installed; Is there any particular brand I should look for? I have read the OEM is crap.

I was thinking of doing some preventative replacement of the shocks, I have 109k on the clock and I am fairly certain the shocks are original. Any suggestions for a nice set?

I have a set of Timken front wheel bearing/hubs that have been waiting to be install so I will be replacing those at the same time. Is there anything else I should inspect/repair/replace while I am performing these repairs?

Any of the aftermarket option are gonna be fine (mevotech, beck/arnely, raybestos) the problem really lies in the fact that those bushings are rubber and can't go any great length of time without tearing due to the extreme angles of a stock Gs alignment..

I actually offer a service where I'll replace the bushings in a brand new set of arms with polyurethane bushings, have them pre greased, ready to install, shipped to you for about $40+parts and shipping . that way you get the best of all worlds.

to the OP, the OEM were junk. But since then there has been a revision to it and it seems to last a LOT longer.

My originals lasted to around 40-50K miles and were junk. Had them replaced under warranty.

The replacements are still on the car. I have 155K miles now, no clunks, and was under the car last weekend inspecting things and the bushings still look fine. So 100K+ and going so far on the revised versions
