Basically there are only two major versions and you can tell them apart with the wiring harness, one has a single large harness that plugs directly into the transmission, one has 3 wired coming out of that same spot in the transmission with 3 separate little harnesses than have green plugs.
I think the TCM are interchangeable as long as you have the correct plug style. The earlier 3 green harness was the external TCM mounted next to the ECU, the later single plug was the internal TCM style.
I think the valve bodies were all completely interchangeable even though they technically had different part numbers based on tranny revision. If someone else doesn't chime in I can try to get ahold of my tranny guy this weekend but I think he's taking the family on vacation because school got out.

The external TCM was only '03 and some '04 equipped G's.
I'm "pretty" sure they're interchangeable, they might have different revision markers but the function is the same. Sometimes you get things like mid-year revisions for solenoids because the manufacturer found a better deal on sourced parts. They might be made in a different solenoid plant but they meet the same specs and externally look identical but the board will have a different revision number so it's technically "different" even though it's 100% interchangeable.
A visual comparison would tell the story, you might also call around to local wrecking yards and ask them to look up the parts interchange on it. Their master interchange catalog is usually VERY accurate for what will or will not actually work.
