G35 vs. maxima

I was just curious, since the maxima and g35 are clearly like twins, what is the diffrence and which is a better performing car and such?? And is there more parts for the maxima?
thanks in advance

The I35 and Maxima were more like twins - The G35 is like the Maxima's evil, more fun, cousin.

I've owned both. The G35 with it's RWD is definitely more of a sports sedan.

Intially the Max had way more aftermarket options but the G35 in the past couple of years has pretty well caught up thanks to the success of the 350Z.

Not twins really.

Obvious reasons
G35 is RWD with the engine placed behind the front wheels which helps for handling. Because the RWD the G will out handle the Maxima, and as far as modding them for drag racing, once you start putting more power parts on the G, it will be able to launch better than a Max with too much power.

Maxima is FWD and I believe its built on a different chassis.

When I first started looking at the G, I said just about the same thing as you said in your post to a Infiniti salesman, and he almost had a heart attack... That being said...

The maxima is FWD, and those plastic "fingers" for a grill are trully ugly. The G has slightly more power (don't know the MAxima's numbers off the top of my head), and other difference that I note is the Gs back end (top of the trunk) is a bit more squared off then the Maximas...

$$ wise, Maxima is cheaper, but I think they can go over $30k fully loaded...

A fully loaded comparably equipped Max was only about $1K below the price of a G35 in 2003.

Maxima is about 265 while the g is 280, however once you take powertrain loss into account, the cars will put down similar numbers on a dyno. 1/4 miles times on stock max and G should be similar while the handling characteristics will be better on the G.

I don't think this is correct. FWD cars have a greater powertrain loss than RWD cars and most performance stats I have seen of the 2005 Maxima with 265 hp (6 speed manual) are a tad slower than the 2004 G35 (Automatic), so I don't see how they put down similar numbers on a dyno (but I admit I have not seen any Maxima dynos yet). Also, remember that's a manual Maxima vs an automatic G35 too.

The Max is 265, but the 05 G35S is 298 for the MT. I went from a 2002 Max (255 HP) to the 05 G35S, the bottom end is about the same, but once you hit 4K RPM's the G takes off. Overall, the G is a much faster car in everyday driving.

Their is no comparison when it come to handling, the Max is a boat with vicious tourqe steer and can't come close to the G. Balanced feel, stable, cornering and carving thru traffic, the G is a blast to drive.

We have owned 2 Maximas prior to our G35. The G and the Max are both from the same family. The pluses for the Maxima were it had more room, and a heated steering wheel, but it ends there. We loved our Maximas, but after we drove a G35 Sedan it was an easy decision what my wife and I wanted. The G performs and sounds better to us, and we just love going for drives in our G, it is just plain fun. We took out a 6th Gen Maxima and we did not like it as well as our 5th and 3rd gen Max's. The first thing we noticed on the 6th gen was the visibility out the back window, it was horrible. We didn't like her butt, and it seemed blah compared to our previous Maximas, performance wise it felt no better than our previous Max. Like I said earlier the G35X just shone a lot brighter in our eyes.

Three very important letters-R.W.D.
No more torque steer for me...oh and the car is just ugly (new Maxima, that is).

Wish I can chime in with much here since I've ownew a 02 maxima 6 speed for 2 yrs. The maxima has alot of aftermarket parts for it. Go to maxima.org and visit their forum. Current maximas like said before only has 265 HP, which is 5HP more than my 04 sedan . I can't rate my G's performance yet, omly 565 on the odo. I'm thinging the 05 G35 sedans with the 6spd 298HP will more than likely outperform the Max. If you go visit the forum I mentioned you will see their 1/4 times, dyno output etc.

Actually the G35 and the Maxima are not in the same family (platform). The G35 sedan only shares its platform with the G35 Coupe and 350z.. and possibly the FX35, but im not 100% sure on that one...

The new Maxima and Altima share the same platform...

I got rid of a 2003 Maxima SE Auto for my 2005 G35X. There is no comparison. THe G is tighter, handles better, seat is more supportive, and the list goes on. I liked my Maxima alot, don't get me wrong. But the G is just a better car.
