Exclamation Camshaft Error p0340 on Drive Home

You can always OBD2 clear the code and see if it returns but it should clear itself immediately.

EDIT: If it still doesn't clear with a good sensor it's possible you got a defect, it does happen. The issue might also be something like a bad harness, burnt wiring, etc. Sometimes a really dead battery or really corroded battery terminals will cause problems like this as well.

Yes..

I'm currently trying to hunt down an Hitachi Passenger sensor for my 03 Sedan.
Car lurched a bit on the highway yesterday on the way home from work.

Thank God it didn't stall.
I've had my share of running out of gas stories with G35s in the past due to faulty fuel sending units and being stuck for hours on the highway.

Ran the OBD2 scanner and Torq App at a traffic light and immediately got the p0340 error.
See picture below.

My morning today was spent trying to hunt down the "right" brand for this sensor.

Hitachi is sold out at most parts stores around here and the cheapest price @ a Nissan dealer in the area is 140+ Tax.
Should I even bother calling the Infiniti dealers at this point?

All it costs you is about 3 minutes on the phone to get a quote from Infiniti. It probably won't be lower but you won't know until you call.

Thanks Man.
End up going to two different Auto zones (one said they had the part on the phone and set it aside but didnt) and got a Hitachi sensor.

Found out my cordless ratchet is too big to fit that tiny space (wish I had the M12 Fuel extended neck) so had to improvise .

Should have it all done by the morning when I have more time. Fingers crossed it all works out!

Pretty easy job, takes a total of 20 mins and that includes finding the right sized wrench. Just get a flash light to help find the bolt and remember that the release for the harness on the sensor has to be pushed towards the engine (I believe, you'll find out) before being pulled off.

Want to thank you all for your help.
Got it done this morning in under an hour!

The car started up perfectly. I drove about 50 miles today ( stop and go, highway, etc.) with no issues. Parked...turned it off and on as I went and everything is back to normal. Fires right up.

No codes.. No check engine lights!

I'm very very happy.
Thanks again everyone

I'm going to assume the green connector would have to be removed from the harness and replaced. Judging by the fact that there's little room and not much slack on the harness wires, I'm going to assume the pin removal would be pretty difficult and probably not worth the effort.

I'd wait to see if the sensor fails again and then see if it can be reused before going through all the trouble. My passenger side sensor went at 315k km, drivers side was still working when I sold the car at 350k km, so there's a possibility that you'll never have to worry about it again anyways.

You can buy replacement cam sensor harnesses, cut/solder splice/shrink tube.

Quick question, you picked up the HItachi brand and its working fine for you? I ask because I started having this happen on Thursday night. Looks like the passenger side is the problem. I can pick up a Hitachi from rockauto for under $60 delivered on Tuesday or hit the stealership and pay about $160 for Nissan/ Infiniti. I heard Hitachi is the one brand that works..... is that the one you went with?

Hitachi makes the OEM sensors for Nissan. Therefore, Hitachi =
OEM.

Amazing. Thanks bud!! Just ordered it from autozone, $10 coupon on next day free home delivery puts the price at $53.40 after the $10 coupon. Sure beats the stealership at about $158.

G35 Sedan V35 2003 Sensor passenger side

Does anyone know if I can just use the same sensor on the driver's side as listed to be used on the passenger side? Is there really a difference other than the connector? The one under the car on the driver side has a straight connector and the parts stores have it as curved.
