Whistling sound

From the very 1st day i bought it the car has a whistling sound coming from the engine -- not always but more audible during low speed. Infact the car i test drove had the similar sound and so i did not bother it at the time of delivery and the dealer said its normal.

Has anyone experienced it and is it something to be bothered about. Mine is a 6MT , does it happen with the AT also.

Found a similar subject at the coupe discussion and thought i'll post it here as well.

I have that problem on my 03 sedan as well. It started happening this winter when I warm my car in the morning. But after awhile, the noise is gone.

I'm not sure if this is the same thing but when I have my ignition key in the "on" position with the engine off I can here what sounds like a whistle or electric hum noise. I only hear it when the engine is off though.

I have this hum too, but no whistle of any kind.. (unless you count me behind the wheel)

A whistle on acceleration or throttle input (you can hear it even more if you have an intake) is the intake whistling, it's crazy bad in this car, not sure why... almost sounds like brakes squealing but it's the intake.

If you have a whistle while idling and stuff, with no throttle... not sure, I don't have that at all in my 04.

I have that slight whistling sound when the I accelerate through the 3500 rpm range. I think it comes up after I installed K&N or the Z tube so I am not sure which one it is

Yeah it was there before, Renesis. You just hear it better now with the intake mods.

I DO have the same whistling problem, I didn't noticed it when it was delivered but from the very next day, i noticed it. The whistle sound is always there at low speed around 2000rpm. I hear the sound at local road whenever I accelerate to start from stop sign or red signal. It's really annoying and took it to the dealer, they said it seems abnormal but they don't know what the problem is...and they said I should drive more miles and wait until the sound gets bigger~~~ mine is 04' auto and only 1500miles on it. I'll bring it again next week...

If you find more information about the problem please keep posting it.

I have the whislting Sound. Interestingly enought it's only during the cold months here in the NE that I really hear it as it becomes fairly noticeable. However after the car is warm it does go away. Also experienced the same with a loaner one time.

My sound comes on between 2500 and 3500 rpm during pickup and goes away after that.

Although slightly irritating i guess it would be normal as others are also having it.

Same here, but only noticed it after CAI and pulley install. Glad to hear it's normal as I was getting a little worried.

I have a very faint whistling sound from 2000-3500rpm which did seem to get louder with the Z-pipe. I'm not too worried though, I've heard the same kind of whistling on late model BMWs I've driven.
