Auto Headlights

Does anyone use the 'Auto' for your headlights? The manual says that it automatically goes off in 45 seconds but was wondering if there was any way to shorten it. I just got my car on Saturday and already 3 people came running up to me telling me I left my lights on (Nice people! ).

It also kinda worries me if they go off or not but I did stand and wait 45 seconds to make sure it does go off the first time. I think I'm going to manually do it from now. What's everyone else doing?

When I need to turn on my headlights, I turn it to AUTO. When I shut off my car, I turn it to OFF. I only leave it on AUTO when I know I'm getting back in the car and it's still going to be dark out. That gives me an excuse to admire my tail lights lit up.

There are 8 modes that can be programmed.
Mode 1 = 45 sec
Mode 2 = off
Mode 3 = 30 sec
Mode 4 = 60 sec
Mode 5 = 90 sec
Mode 6 = 120 sec
Mode 7 = 150 sec
Mode 8 = 180 sec

Same question here but 30 seconds is still kinda long . I was hoping to get about 10 to 15 seconds if possible. I guess i'm going manually for now. Thanks for the info inTgr8r.

It requires a programmer (U can't do it yourself).
Usually requires a trip to the dealer.

What does 'Mode2=off' mean. Will the lights turn off as soon as the engine is shut down? My Toyota minivan has this feature, with the headlights in AUTO mode, the
lights will shut off after the engine is turned off and the driver's door is opened.

Thanks.

Good question.....
I'm not absolutely sure, but I think it would just disable the delay.

Manual only for me too

Nissan's auto headlamp programming falls into the too-smart-for-its-own-good category. My Altima 3.5 had this feature too, and the first time my wife took the car to work she called me, complaining.

"There's something wrong with your dash," she said. "Every time I went through an underpass, everything dimmed. When I'd come out, everything lit back up."

After a few seconds of thought I realized it was the auto-headlamp feature turning the lights on and off. I told her to stop using the Auto setting, and that was the end of that problem.

With the G35's HIDs, I particularly don't want them going on and off for a few seconds at a time. It's tough on the ballast.

If you leave tings plugged into the power port in the arm rest it will affect the timer and leave the lights on.

I like the Auto feature, HOWEVER I park in my garage. Which means that when I start my car the lights will come on then when I pull out in to the day light the lights will go out.

Looking at page 2-20 of the '05 manual it states that "the life of the xenon headlights will be shortened by frequent on-off operation".

So for this reason I rarely use Auto mode.

$75! That's alot for something that sounds not so hard to do. I guess it's best to do it manually.
