Would a 300 plus pound Passenger harm my new G?

There is currently an extreme shortage of Big Brother's in the Twin Cities area, so I volutneered to be a big brother. I have been assigned to an 11 year old who happens to weigh 300 pounds. I have nothing against his size and I'm sure he needs a big brother more than a lot of kids do, I just don't know anyone nearly as big as him and am worried that driving him around in my brand new G will adversely affect it. Does anyone have any thoughts, experience? Will the seat get really worn down, will the shocks, etc. have problems? This is a big unknown and I'm somewhat nervouse about it for this reason. Any info, etc. would be appreciated.

Get a trailer. His 'large cargo area' is gonna crease the $hit out of your leather.

Is he 'muscle' big, or 'I've spent too much time with Playstation and Chucky Cheese' big?

Haven't met him yet, but I am assuming based on the info I've received that he is the later. Playstation and Chuck Cheese. I feel horrible, because I don't want to cancel on them, but I also don't want to ruin my brand new car that I am spening hard earned money on.

Hard choice. Very hard choice. Doing something like this tells me your heart is in the right place, but I understand your reluctance.

OMG... 300 lbs isn't gonna hurt the G. if he were 500 lbs I'd be worried. If the shocks on your G can't handle 300 lbs I'd sell the damn thing right now and no that should not affect your seat. if anything, it may be nice to have it worn similar to the drivers seat (since you are probably the only one in the car most of the time).

Help the kid out and enjoy your ride too!

to me, it sounds like you need to rethink your commitment to being a big brother.

Being a big brother is a selfless act for a child who needs help, attention, and guidance. Are you sure that you are ready. How your little brother affects your leather seating should be rather low on your list of concerns for him!

Make sure that you are doing this for the rights reasons...for his sake!!!!

Agreed and well said.

Mpls, I applaud you for volunteering for a noble cause but you should really be more concerned about how you will affect his life than how he will affect your G.

Thumbs up

Be careful. He sounds big enough to take your G away from you!
Sounds like a good thing you`re doing.

The seat will be just fine. Don't worry one bit. You're going to be happy you chose to help that kid. The payback is limitless. Take him to a ball game!

I wouldn't sweat the 300lbs. - many Americans weigh in the 240 range and I'm sure that amount of extra weight isn't gonna matter much. Besides it's not like he's in the car every time you are. And I think those making comments about the original poster's concern need to tone it down - this guy is guilty only of caring too much for his car.

I almost did it once, went to the initiation meeting, then backed out. So I have respect for those that follow through with it.

Thanks - Met him last night, went well

Thanks everyone for your replies. I think part of my aprehension was that I was nervous about meeting the kid. It also turns out that the case-worker for Big Brothers really misrepresented his size. The kid is about 5'10 and my 225-50lbs. He actually looks like a little NFL Lineman. He's big, but not grossly obese. I know it sounded shallow, but I think I had a valid concern. Part of it is, this is my first new car in 8 years and I am being way overprotective, probably to a fault. In any event, I'm excited to hang out with the kid. It was actually pretty cool, he walked out to my car with me and was like "cool car man". So, anyway, I'm glad I'm doin' it and I appreciated everyone's takes. Who knows, maybe I'll teach him the value of the G and he will be pimpin' in one when he is in the NFL some day.

Props on your good deed.

Your seat will be fine. You will have more of a positive affect on this young man then he will have a negative affect on the seat.

Hope the two of you have many pleasant experiences.

Good job dude !!
