new Acura TL

Sup guys! I'd just read an article in Import Tuner magazine about the 2004 3.2 TL. They said that the car would still have the same 3.2 liter displacement, however it's up to 280HP now. Damn that's 20 more than our sedan. I'm not sure if it's still FWD or not. So what you folks think about the new and more powerful TL? Personally, i stick with Infiniti!!

Haven't seen the new 2004 Acura TL, but that 280HP sounds good. But unless it’s RWD (which I doubt), I wouldn’t buy one. And I suspect that the torque will be on the low side compared to the VQ engine’s torque.

Yup. The current 260hp motor makes 232lb-ft of torque. The VQ35 making 260hp also makes 260lb-ft of torque. And it's torque that throws you back in the seat.

Re: new Acura TL

Honda is very good at making high hp output from a smaller engine, look at Accord. but, Where is the torgue? I'll not be surprised that we will still see a low torgue 2004 TL

Re: new Acura TL

So? if you can out run a TL, have better handling and style with a G over TL, do you care if TL outsell G? unless you own Nissan stocks.

Re: new Acura TL

That's true. HP moves cars off the showroom floor, but doesn't do as much as torque for moving them on the streets. BMW's "lowly" 225hp engine in the 330i is certainly no sloucher. It's torque output isn't that high either, but I believe you have 90% of the max torque avaible from fairly low to nearly redline. Actually, I think the Acura has a wide/flat torque curve too. I suppose we'll have to wait until the 2004 models hit the streets to know for sure. But, it'll still be a FWD luxury family sedan, not a RWD luxury sport sedan; and if you don't understand that difference, go buy the Acura.

My TL exhibited typical Honda power traits...mostly high in the rpm range. The G is soooo much more fun to drive...torque all over the rev range...even though there's an extra kick at 3500 rpm or so.

That would be about where the variable-capacity muffler opens up, allowing more exhaust out.

BASE ACURA TLX NOW WANT A G35 AGAIN THOUGH
Re: new Acura TL

to my fellow G Peeps. Let me just say a few things about Acura. I've used to own them and sell them for many many many years. I've had a 1990 Legend Sedan LS, 1991 Integra GS Sedan in green, and a 2002 3.2TL-S. The TL-S was my final Acura unless of course I find a 1995 Red/Blk NSX-T! Acura screwed up when they thought building these cars in the U.S. would help them save costs. Truth is, the LEGENDS and INTEGRAS were and still are the best they had. I'm not sure if you guys know about the "flaws" in the TL's but here's the scoop..My Tranny went out backordered for over a month, my rotors went, cd changer replaced and speakers blew! Not to mention knicks on the dash when I picked it up. RearWheelDrive kicks ***! Acura has always been very conservative and never aggressive in styling which is there weakness. GO INFINITI!
