03-06 G35 SEDAN EURO SPOILER From Grubbs
#151
Hi, ma_sha!
Your spoiler looks great! Excellent improv.
However, I do notice another difference besides the "installation curve"; the IS300 spoiler doesn't fit quite "square" with the corners of the trunk, like the Euro spoiler does. I just checked out Grubb's new installation link. They have some pictures from similiar angles as yours. IMHAO (in my humble and amateur opinion), while the IS300 looks perfectly fine, the Euro spoiler looks a bit sharper. I hope it will be worth the extra hassle!
Thanks again for sharing your innovation!

I didn't notice that. IIRC, it was a non-descript cardboard box with only the UPS label and Grubbs' information. I stupidly threw it away after ordering the overlay from Blue_Batmobile, thinking we were going to keep it after all.
Thanks for the link. I grabbed it, just in case Grubbs doesn't have what I want to exchange for. That adhesive assembly thing kinda scares me!

My bad on the pics. I ran out of daylight on Thurs (also did the blinker mod, alum pedals, z-tube & relocated my a/m sirius), and Fri was hell at work.
Today (6am) it's raining.
I was a bit concerned w/ the permanancy(sp?) of the no-drill install....until I stuck it on there. It's going nowhere. It said to wait 12 hrs before you drive or wash, which I did, but it felt like you could go 100+ mph & be fine. I usually stress about this type of thing, but I feel very confident it's going nowhere.
On the down side, it's going nowhere. You get one shot when you install it. Mine is just a bit off. It's perfectly centered, but about 1 mm back on the left side. I tried to heat it w/ a hair dryer & move it, but the tape was so strong. I felt like I'd damage my spoiler before the tape let go. You can't tell from any angle b/c of the spoilers curves/lines. You can tell if you open the decklid 3/4 & compare both sides. I was a bit bummed, but like I said you can not see it when it's closed.
Apologies to all for the delay in pics... When I do post, I'll give you a side shot. Nobody seems to give you that angle.

Spoiler
I am glad the tape is strong. When I did my DIY install, I tried using 3m double sided tape first but chickened out & drilled holes. I was afread spoiler might fly off at high speed. The spoiler is quite big compares to tipical tape-on lip spoiler & weight several lbs as well. I don't know about how much down force exactly but it suppose to creat many lbs of down force at high speed to stabilize the car.
I am a little surpriced they'd offer tape on as an option for spoiler of this size.

Wow!! That looks simply awesome!! And totally worth the hassle of exchanging with Grubbs or running it down somewhere else.
You did a great job on the install. Thanks so much for the pics!

I did not want the factory wing and was looking for options. I got one of those spoilers back in October from an online Ebay retailer. They are made by DAR in Texas. And I have to say the whole thing turned out to be a big pain. The color match was good but the fitment of the brake light was poor at best. It came with a red lens. So they sent me another one and apologized, said it was probabally a bad one and they would personally check the new one before it was sent out. Well the next one came with a clear light and the exact same fitment problems. I mean if you were to run your finger over the light edges it would grab you. Instead of being recessed it sticks out. So I spent hours with a dremel to get it to a point that was "good enough". It also mounts poorly. 2 short sheetmetal screws from below. They barely grab and mostly just crack the plastic when tightened. So I added 2 more and some silicone to mount it. In the end it looks ok but to a trained eye there are some issues. A few sanding flaws in the spoiler, its not perfectally contoured to the trunk so the foam gasket is required to fill the gaps on the ends, 2 studs mounted to the spoiler would have been a much better mounting option, and the light originally was an 1/8" farther back then it should have been.
The spoiler is basically a bad copy of a Lexus IS one that has been shortened and has a Nissan style light. But if you look at a factory IS the spoiler has a very tight fit to the trunk and the light has excellent fitment and is recessed a little (like most spoiler lights). Maybe DAR has fixed the problems by now but I cant recomend the product.
