Finally got to see the '07 G Sedan up close

I had time to kill last night so I stopped in Lokey Infiniti (Clearwater, FL) after they were closed and there was a black '07 Sedan on the lot. It looked fantastic. The chrome trim piece on the trunk really shows fingerprints like crazy! Other than that, it looked great. It was a 6MT and basically the only major option it had was a sunroof. Sticker was $34,100. I loved how manufacturing location decal on the windshield stated that the G was 100% JAPAN.

On another note, I pulled into the Porsche/BMW dealer down the road and parked my '04 Caribbean Blue coupe beside a Porsche Cayman. The little Cayman had a sticker of $68K. It was painted cobalt blue metallic, which was a $3000 option! (My CB looked hotter) I just don't see how a Cayman is $30K more car than my G Coupe by any stretch of the imagination.

Very simple: The car is worth $30K, and you pay an additional $38K for the name PORSCHE.

Just like you pay an extra $8,000-$10,000 for the name BMW on a 335i....

^Speed, I know you're a big fan of Infiniti like we all are but that's a bit of a stretch on the Porsche Cayman statement.

In that case a Lotus Elise should be around 15K then. 10k for the little guy and 5K for the lotus name?

Fine!

Make it $45K for the car, and $23K for the name...

Drive a porsche and then tell me you don't feel the difference.

I'm the biggest fan of Infiniti G's, but you are really pushing it man. And BMW's 335i isn't that overpriced, they're making you pay for the free maintenence and then factor in that you get xxx% off sticker, not to mention the better residual and moneyfactor rates.

People really strive to be the best and INfiniti's new G is much improved from 06, still it hasn't moved up in the relative ranks. It's still slotted right where it was before, alongside BMW's 3 series as the VALUE pick.

There's NO WAY a Cayman drives $30K better than my G Coupe. Maybe $10K better? It's also too small of a car and the G would fare better in an accident.

The balance and the performance of the car. Not sure if it's worth 2x the Infiniti but sometimes it's more than just the car. To some people it's a statement I have twice as much disposable income than you. 70k doesn't mean much for me. Sounds vain? Sure but that's what people do.

The cost of manufacturing probably the same. The 07 G35 might even have a better engine. But it's not too farfetch to say there is a 30K extra for the name Porsche. Economy of scale I guess. Infiniti will probably be able to sell more G35 therefore the lower price. If hypothetically somehow Ford can get a hand of the Cayman blueprint and start manufacturing the thing like a Ford Escord, it is possible that the Cayman could be had for around 25K.
