We just purchased a 2008 G35X. The sound system we had in our last car , 2005 Acura Tl sounded way better. Were not happy at all with the sound system in our G35.

The TL must have one hell of a sound system then because I'm quite impressed with the Bose. Turn bass up to one notch from the top, treble all the way, and crank volume to half. With my Ipod the clarity is amazing and the bass is crisp, clean, and moderately deep. Now with the radio it's nothing fantastic but that's just a quality of the signal problem.

The Bose system just doesn't sound all that great. I'm a recording engineer, that's what I do for a living. The TL's audio system is so much better.

Audio quality is still subjective. No offence but just because you are a recording engineer doesn't mean that what sounds good to you should sound good for everyone. We have all listened to recordings (by engineers) where some sound great and some sound like crap.
I am a civil engineer and I don't believe for a second that everyone likes the way I design things.

I agree with the recording engineer
The G35 Bose system is good for mid range and that's about it(even with Bass and Treble maxed out). Someone truly messed up on the BOSE amp EQ. My stock 1996 Maxima Bose system with 6 speakers was better. The clarion head unit is great low distortion preamp, however, and so just tapping into it and running some tweeters and a subwoofer will make it truly sound like a studio on wheels. On the good side, the front door subs are decent.

Completely agree. Audio quality is as subjective as what color car you prefer. Just because a recording engineer may not like the SOW, doesn't mean that it's crap. That's just one OPINION out of thousands. And great analogy with your civil engineer example as well.

Do I think there are better systems, probably. Do I think this one is pretty good, yea. I think it's probably the best 'Bose' system I've heard in an OEM system. The one main thing this is missing is more adjustment. "Bass" and "Treble" adjustments just don't cut it in a "Studio on Wheels" claim. Hell, if it had a "Mid" adjustment in there as well, it'd give us more options for tweaking. Overall, I still think it's pretty good for an OEM car setup. I have heard the Acuras have great sound systems tho.

I agree there is a subjective element to sound but it is clear to my ears that the high and low frequencies are muted compared to most other sytems I've heard. When I drove a non-Bose G35 loaner it had better frequency response!

10w6 would be ideal for this car.

Ditto. I was auditioning the TL-S and G35 prior to my purchase of the G. The ELS system in the TL-S and TSX is indeed good, but sounded a tad bit artificial to me. It hit the highs and lows more, but only with DVD-A discs and sound processing turned on. Use the processing on XM/CD and FM then it sounds muddy. For those sources to sound good, you have to turn the processing off. It sounds decent, but i still liked the SOW performance better. The staging on a good stereo set-up similar to the SOW, to me, sounds much better than a surround sound set-up as in the ELS system.
