According to the Service Manual, it is a 5 watt W5W bulb. I'd just change it myself rather than go to the dealer.

The T5 is equivalent to a 194. You can get a brighter/whiter version at any autoparts store in pairs. I changed my license plate lights to some PIAA bulbs I had sitting around and it brightened it up a lot. Not so 'yellowish'.

As long as they are wedge shaped bulbs. 168's, 194's, are usually interchangeable.

Why do people like to change to brighter license plate bulbs? Makes your plates that much more readable... I'm not condoning any illegal driving, but if you do something that irritates another motorist, you just made his ability to read your plate better.

I was driving to work the other day (6am - still dark outside) and saw one of the new 07 Lexus LS460. It had a bright white neon bulbs for its license plate. I was able to spot and read it from about 5 cars back! That thing was bright as hell.

Ok, here's my first mod. I replaced the stock plate bulbs with 194 LEDs. Geez, I haven't even had time to take full pics of the new car...yup, I have my priorities straight.

First pic shows one bulb replaced on the left side. The output isn't as bright as stock so I think it looks perfect...not bright at all. Picked up the bulbs from PepBoys for $7.99US. Took about 5 minutes and no tools.

I don't have the backup camera so I wouldn't know. I don't think it's brighter than the originals.

I saw that post by bertmauricio - but that post has the lights w/ a blue tint in them (which I don't want). I want to know which LED's he put in in this post (w/ the whiter lights).

bertmauricio - can you please comment.
