If the Admins/Mods don't want certain topics on the forum than they have every right to get rid of it. Just like I have every right to refuse service to someone that walks into my store. Would it be a popular decision? No...and neither is the decision they made about the Navi threads. If you don't like it then there are plenty of other forums to go to. I think the mods/admins have done a god job of keeping this a great place to come and discuss issues on and off topic. They even made the navigation (of the forum) a little more organized the last couple of days. I'm sorry but I don't think this should be the Amsterdam of forums. Not everything goes. My $.02
You are exactly right here, the staff has the final say in what is and isn't discussed on their site. To be fair the discussion was accepted as long as it remained on topic, there weren't multiple threads created on the same topic, and the discussion remained respectful to other members and the staff. Each and every thread created on this topic quickly became a flame war, so it was decided by the entire moderating and administration team that it should not continue. It is what it is, face it.
Wow . . . it is good to see adults getting passionate about a cause and having some intellectual banter back and forth. I've been on the forum (more or less) since 05 and this may be the most "heady" topic I've seen discussed for a long time. With the obvious exception of a few posts, everyone has brought valid points to the table and this hasn't become a "flame-fest". Well done everyone!
My coupe doesn't have navi, but I worked for 5 years at a high-end home and car audio video retailer with a great crew of installers. It was their position that allowing video to be watched in the front seats was too dangerous to allow, with NO exceptions, because of the likely-hood of it causing a serious accident, not just to cover their a**es. True, it's easy enough to defeat, but if g35driver doesn't feel comfortable telling you how to do it, then so be it! It's their website, and I applaud the mods and administrators for taking OUR safety into consideration, not just their liability. I've seen numerous posts from mods (or just senior members) on threads reminding posters that what they are doing may be stupid (speeding) irresponsible (race pipes) and dangerous (navi). If they pick and choose certain subjects to be particularly passionate about, awesome, so do I.

We had a severe shortage of moderators for a while.
Now that we have fixed that situation & something is getting done around here....
it may ruffle a few feathers for a while.
JMHO, but....
Unless we want to see the site degenerate into something totally useless we need to cut the MODs some slack & let them do their job.
Keep up the good work guys!
People......this Thread Started Off Because A Certain Canuck Is Getting Heat And Mistreated Because The Boss Said To Stop The Bs. There Is A Chain Of Command Here. All Of You Have Jobs Right? If Your Boss Tells You To Do Something You Do It. I Dont Know Godzilla I Never Met Him But If He Has A Certain Protocall He Wants His Web Site To Run By So Be It. Nobody Goes Into Your House And Tells You What To Do Do They? So Everyone Just Shut Up And Appreciate That Someone Took The Time To Create A Great Forum For Infiniti Drivers!!!!!!!!! This Forum Is By Far One Of The Best For Enthusiasts Lets Not Ruin It Or Act Like Little Immautre Children Just Beacuse Of One Stupid Post.

nobody, including any dealer and/or infiniti, can void your entire* warranty. period. read up:

*they CAN void a portion of the warranty if an oem part fails b/c of a modification, but that must be proven by the dealer/manufacturer.
I am a green bean here, but as someone who has tens of thousands of posts on various forums and BBS' (Fidonet anyone?
), at the end of the day this is a private forum, owned by someone other than yourself.
Any post exists at their pleasure. They have banned discussion of this topic, and there is no recourse available to those that disagree, other than to cease participating in other discussions.
To those that feel strongly, I would suggest that there are 2 other large Infiniti G35 boards, one of which gets almost as much traffic as this one. And at least for now, that topic is not verboten, there.

Looks like you guys over reacting a little bit.
If case is so serous then you should think about closing all the nos, turbo kits, super chargers and all the other threads where ppl talk about making their cars faster. After all they get tickets for going to fas and some even crash and die or hurt them selves. And it's all cuz G35Driver.com allowed ppl to talk about making their G's faster. SHAME ON YOU G35Driver.com
But seriously. WHO GIVES A FLYING FVCK?? ppl want to talk about hacking havi.......? let them.

I even pushed hard for all of you to get the Picture Share section created.......which alot of Mods/Admins were opposed to doing. You don't see an individual Picture Share section for the 1st Gen G Sedan or Coupe do you?
This is a touchy subject with alot of you, and I realize that......but cut me some damn slack here.......don't think that this is just MY doing.

the nav system locks out functions while the car is moving, you can trick it by putting a switch that disables the speed sensor tricking the car...if you don't like threads like this then don't read...and liability does not fall on the site since the site mods are not the ones posting it.
I too am sorry that some people decided to make this issue personal in prior threads. Particularly in the case of Canuck, who is just doing what he thinks is right and enforcing the policies set forth for the site. Although I feel that there are legitimate uses, I agree that the potential for abuse is great. And even though I personally think it should be open for discussion, I will respect the decisions made by the moderators.
I am not an attorney, but I did want to add my view regarding the liability discussion. Many people have expressed that there is no way the site could be held liable for posts by members. Unfortunately, the law in this area is not 100% clear, so that may or may not be the case. It also must be considered that there are international law concerns because of the international membership. Could the site be held liable for posts? Yes it could. Would it be held liable by a court faced with the lawsuit? It really depends on the facts of the particular case, but you never know what a judge or jury will do with a given case. That is the unfortunate reality of the world we live in.

I don't know if I'm in the majority or minority on this but if infiniti had decided on a less intrusive safety concept for the nav screen and allowed, say, scrolling of the nearby places beyond one screen while driving or track info to be allowed through the aux input, I wouldn't have any interest in bypassing anything.
I get the safety issues, but there comes a time when the restrictions are so annoying that dealing with them or trying work around them are more dangerous than being a little less restrictive to start with.
regardless, it's the admin's right to stop the topic if they feel threatened by it - and just because someone might not win a lawsuit doesn't mean they can't file it and while a PI lawyer might only charge if they win, it can cost a bundle to defend yourselves against even a frivolous suit.
