oh, one more thing...
took the car to someone to really look at the engine bay and certain parts of the engine. after seeing this (no pics, this is a project), not only will a 3.7 fit, but after engine work and a good garage, a twin turbo set up on top of the larger engine can fit.
so that guy with the g37 in his driveway should stick to whatever he does and not specualte on engines.

the estimate is, that if the vq35hr were rebuilt with pistons, rods, springs, new cams to make it a 3.7and then tuned, it would put out closer to 350-60 at the flywheel. the cams alone are good for 15-20 horses in a DE at higher rpm, so just cams would put the 35HR at about 320. that's just a rough estimate, so don't quote me on this.

So let me get this straight- Inifiniti spends time and money developing the new 3.5 in the new sedan with 80% new parts and some think they are going to drop it after a year for the new 3.7?
Im pretty sure Infiniti is smarter financially then this and that if they wanted to put it in the sedan they would have just put it in the sedan to begin with-
Its not like they came out with the sedan 6 months ago and said NO WAIT lets build a 3.7 now and they developed the thing in a few months for the coupe-
Also to the guy who took his car to a shop who though there would still be room for a 3.7 with twin turbos- I happen to think there will be room for a V8-
but I have been working around cars long enough to know that unless you have a motor to test fit, you can't just eye ball a larger motor with twin turbos-
Car manufactures dont operate that way-
Now if they had launched the 07 sedan with old motor, I would have said there is a strong chance they would put the 3.7 in it sooner rather then later-

Honestly I think Infiniti was forced to introduce the VQ37HR because of the BMW I6 twin turbo in the 335i. Remember, BMW has a tradition of royally screwing over its competitions with the 2nd model year engine revemp. Back in 1999 they released the E46, waited for IS300 to come out with a slight lead, then obliterated the Lexus with a new 3.0L I6. They are doing the same thing now with the BMW 335i TT.
Infiniti thought the VQ35HR would be sufficient to maintain market lead, but the IS350 and later BMW 335i outdone the new G35 in terms of power and delivery. Shortly after Infiniti realized the new VQ35HR needs to be upgraded in order to stay competitive in the league. By January 2007 Infiniti released the G Concept with the numbering conspicuously missing, and the arrival of a new 3.7L VQ engine was confirmed in April in NYIAS.
What I am really waiting for is Infiniti's likely response to the upcoming V8 BMW M3 and V8 IS-F. The VQ TT technology found in the GT-R should not be too much trouble to port over to the next Z or G. A 400+hp G Coupe will be amazing. This is some exciting time for the auto industry, the power race is getting crazy.

So - let's call it 290rwhp because everybody likes round numbers.
The VQ35HR is putting down around 265rwhp stock on a dynojet. Again, these are just rough numbers. So that's a difference of 25rwhp. Doesn't really sound like much, does it?
Well, after I put on a stillen airbox, ztube, mrev+ and spacer, ichiba headers, kinetix resonated test pipes, stillen exhaust, clutchmasters stage1 clutch, JWT flywheel, and a utec with a great tune, guess how much power I made over stock? Right around 25rwhp.
That 25hp manifested in about 6mph pickup in trap speeds in the 1/4 mile, and almost a full second off the ET.
So I think having a VQ37HR versus a VQ35HR is quite significant.

Just adding a point- 25rwhp might drop you a second and gain 6 MPH on a high 14 second car-
(Not to mention you put BFG's on your car which effects traction- which means that the 25rwhp was not the only thing responsible for your drop in time-)
But on a high 13 second car, 25 rwhp will have no where near the same effect-
Otherwise, it takes a lot more power to go from high 13s to low 13s then it does to go from high 14s to low 14s-
On a high 13 second car, most of the time 25rwhp will be lucky to get you another .4 seconds off your time-
I think if the G37 coupe is much faster, it will be attributed more to gearing and traction then another 25rwhp- as gearing and traction is the exact reason the IS350 is faster then the current G35 sedan-
The IS350 might have 10 ft/tq more- but what really helps it is the 4.11 final drive ratio while the G35 has closer to a 3.55- if I remember correctly-
I would also be interested in looking at the torque curve as a famous man once said-
HP might sell cars, but torque wins races-
I have owned an 11 second car, several 12 second cars, and too many 13 second cars to remember- all which started out as 14 second cars- so I do have a good amount of experience with what it takes to make a 14 second car fast-
