it depends on the way you look at it. G's clutch is SWEET when you give it LOTS of gas. this is what the car is asking for, GIMMI GAS TO ROLL

6mt is great on the 07 sedan. my friend has a 05 coupe 6mt that i drove frequently before. night and day compare to the 07.
my bro use to drive a 350z and likes the 07 alot better.
just the other day i let my friend drove my car which he hasn't drove manual for 4 long years. he didnt even stall, shifting wasnt perfect but that was expected. i bet you if its a previous year he would of stall on 1-2.
practice makes perfect. 07 sedan isnt the greatest manual car but its also not the worst!

Clutch in the 02 WRX I sold shortly after I got the G was much different than the G. The pedal force in the WRX increased linearly the closer you pushed it to the floor. The pedal on the G is fairly constant force from top to bottom, and it seems to "grab" a bit more and require a bit more forethought to giving it a bit of throttle (1200 to 1500 rpm) to get a smooth start or you will stall. Took a few days to get used to it, stalled the car frequently at first but got used to it and now have no problems. When I got back in the WRX it felt alien and took getting used to.

I test drove a 6mt several months before I took delivery, and a month after I ordered the 6spd. I was frustrated because it was tricky, and actually considered changing my order to the 5AT. I havent had an AT car in 20 years (had '79 and '85 5.0Mustangs, 95 Contour SE and the 02 WRX). Thankfully I came to my senses and did not change to the AT. I have had my 6spd for 3 weeks and love it. The clutch is just different, a bit tricky, than I and takes a bit of getting used to.

Talking 6mt clutch take-up is high but not that bad

I've been driving stick for over 10 years (Miata) and decided to stay with stick for the G35 because it's too much fun to row your own gears.

I still have both cars so I continually alternate between both cars. I'm used to the Miata clutch so that car is very easy to drive. The clutch take up is lower, the pedal travel is also lower and since the car is more than 1000 lbs lighter, it's real easy and fun to drive.

The 2007 G35 clutch does have a higher take up but you can get used to it. Do I wish the take up was lower? Sure. Do I regret not getting the 5AT? Nope. I test drove a BMW 3 series with stick several times and although I liked their clutch, it could have been a bit firmer for my tastes. The throws in the Bimmer are much longer than the G35.

After driving the Miata for a few days and then switching to the G, the clutch travel seems quite long but after a while, you get used to it and the G clutch seems fine (still a bit long but not horrible). Then I switch back to the Miata and it seems SO low. Then I get used to the Miata after a while and repeat.

Bottom line is that the G clutch isn't as bad as you might have read. Do yourself a favor and test drive the 2007 G35 6mt before making any decisions.

One more thing to note is that the dead pedal/foot rest is low IMHO.
I wish the clutch was lower and the foot rest was higher.
