Adaptive Front Lighting system?

How many of you have the "adaptive front lighting" system?
I haven't found much on here about it on the 07.

Is it similar to the Audi's system where the headlight system turns in unison with the steering wheel? Does it also raise/lower the headlights' beam based on road conditions? How's the overall color compared to stock?
Any help would be appreciated!!

After a little more than a week with my new G35x (Prem, Nav, Tech), I llike the AFS. Actually, I liked it the first night I got my new baby.

I don't know how it compares to the Audi, but here's how it works. The right light swivels right when you make a right turn, even from stop. I think it swivels up to 15 degrees. The left light swivels left when you make a left turn at a speed of 16 mph or more. (17 degrees.) I think the reason the left light doesn't swivel when you make a left turn from a stop is to avoid blinding oncoming drivers.

The AFS does indeed change the light height based on load, road conditions, etc. I don't know how the color compares to stock because I haven't compared them. So far, nobody has blinked their headlights at me to indicate displeasure.

Hope this helps.

It works as described above by Rich... I also have them on my 6MT and overall I'd rate them as "gadgety". Which basically means, it'll make your friends ooh and aah, but it's otherwise wortheless, imo.

In spirited driving at night, I still ended up using my brights instead of relying on the headlights swivel ability.

If they were available separately instead of bundled in the tech package, they might be a nice gadget. Having to also pay for a cruise control hybrid which I will never use makes it a less desirable add-on for me. I cannot remember when I last used cruise control, much less one that removes the driver even more (although I do not do much long highway driving).

Also, don't the headlights auto level even without the adaptive lighting option?

I wasn't terribly interested in the intelligent cruise control part of the Tech package. However, it also includes--even when the icc is off--pre-tensing of the seatbelts and pre-charging of brake hydraulics if it senses that you are closing too fast on a vehicle in front of you. It doesn't actually brake; it just makes the brakes react instantly when you touch them.

The manual suggests that auto-leveling does NOT occur with the HIDs in the non-tech package.

Yeah auto-leveling seems to be part of AFS... I've taken apart my headlights and bought a used set off ebay and didn't see any of the hardware that it mentions is needed for self-levelling.

I believe it was said before; No, they are pointed however you have them aligned.

I am trying to decide whether or not it would be worth looking into upgrading my stock system.
It looks like there is an added computer aspect that would cause a huge headache, especially since I don't have any tech/premium packages. Looks like it probably isn't compatible. I still am curious to know if the headlight/bulb is any different than stock, changing hue / brightness etc.
Thanks for the info!

The bulbs are probably the same... hell, the housing and everything else are probably the same, and it's just that the AFS setup has a couple of extra bits to adjust/level the beams.

But looking at the service manual, it doesn't look like a retrofit is worth the money... just like with the rear camera, even if it's pre-wired getting all the modules would make the cost prohibitive.
