Exactly the problem with BMW. I didn't like that feature when I test drove it before I bought my G. When the salesman told me to put the fob in the slot then push the button, I was thinking, this is silly. You might as well put in a key and turn it. What's the difference?
Like I pointed out earlier, with BMW you can pay $750 to get there key to work like the G.

I agree, it seems very pointless and totally defeats the purpose of having a start button in this day and age.

Thats exactly what I meant. You take the fob out of your pocket, insert it into the slot, then push the start button. Mind as well be a standard key ignition.
This was on an 08 vehicle.

That is a really great feature on the G. You can walk up, unlock the door, start the car. drive. get home. and never have to take teh key FOB out of your pocket.

The only time i insert the FOB in the slot by the VDC is when I come home from the gym and dont have any pockets on my lax shorts. I've found this is the only way i always know where the key is. If i throw it on the passenger seat or in the drink holder, i'm bound to forget about it.

With BMW Comfort Access you can start the car without inserting the FOB, as well as roll up or down all the windows by holding your finger a couple seconds longer on the sensor.

And trust me, we "paid" to have keyless entry on the G....doesn't matter if it's an option or standard nothing is for free.

I knew this response would eventually come.
Yes, we paid for it. But like many other features it's hidden in the BASE price of the G and not an option you tack on to the base price like BMW does.
We all know the price difference when you compare a similar equipped G35 vs. 335i. (08G35S FULLY Loaded $51,890.00, 08 335i with same options $64,600) (US Prices$41,065.00/$54,630 respectively)
I'm not a BMW basher. They are excellent cars. The G is just a better bargain, hands down.
