Injen CAI or SRI?

What are your opinions on these two?

Just judging from the design, the CAI will have better low-end but might compromise top-end (think: drinking from a long straw). The SRI will likely compromise low-end power due to a little heat soak, but should perform better higher up.

There's roughly an $80 and 5 hp difference between these two. The SRI is easier to install, the CAI, not so much what with removing the bumper and replacing the washer fluid reservoir.

Thanks, all.

p.s. CAI = Cold Air Intake, SRI = Short Ram Intake.

R2C is my opinion.

Better filter technology and terrific heat shielding. No PIA install.

I am waiting on my Black Chrome version to ship.

R2C hasnt gotten their act together yet.

At least for Sedans. They dont provide a longer hose for the small tubing connecting the intakes to the engine.

Kool Yaar is looking into this. He got his the other day but unable to install cuz of this oversight :S Either he is waiting on R2C to send him the proper tubing or he has to go out and get one himself.

A missing tube?

Interesting. I'll let you know if mine is missing, but I doubt it as it wont ship for another week or so from the Manufacturer.

Not sure if I would say that is a huge deal though. Certainly no reason to not consider them. Just something to address.

Again, what appears to be the top filter with very good heat shielding. That would be an example of where they do in fact have their act together. I just think that they over committed their readiness to deliver and things are slipping a bit.

Go with a good CAI. Spend the extra $80 and do it right the first time. The only thing that requires a bit of work is the Stillen Gen 3. Gen 2 Bolts right in. And even so, the gen 3 can still be done by any diy that has some knowledge of using tools and some patience.

Andy recommends the R2C for a daily driver, as the Injen and Stillen provide too much airflow with unknown long term effects on the MAF (according to him).

I personally don't believe heat soak is that big an issue, as long as the car is moving. Air gets circulated under the hood in the engine bay as long as the car is in motion. That fact, and the ease of installation are the deciding factors for me. Plus, R2C has the best filters (IMO), as I've never been totally comfortable with K&N's and the oiling process.

I'm not falling for any of the manufacturer claims of gains or filtering ability. R2C may seem good, and they sure do a good job of marketing their filters, but i have yet to see an independent test of its ability. I've seen a lot for the Apexi dry filters, so if anything, i could always swap those for whatever comes in the kit (even the R2C if it does indeed work as claimed).

The car will see track duty, so heat soak is of minimal concern to me, and most of my driving is on the highway as well. I'm just trying to see if the CAI is worth it moreso than the SRI. As for stock intakes proven to produce the most power, i take that with a grain of salt as well... just as i do of aftermarket companies claims of their intakes making the most power.

^1. I too would like to see an independent test of the R2C. They look aesthetically pleasing to me, but I would like it to perform as well as it looks.
