The Price of Love and Beauty...

Ok...I'm not whining, but I got laid off last week. No biggie - I'm interviewing and the lord willing - will be working soon.

With my time off...I'm going thru all my files, and as I have done with all of my last 15 or so cars - organizing the file for my G. Service receipts, oil changes, parts purchased, mods, installs - etc.

Here's the rundown on my investment - and why I'm definitely keeping her when my lease is up in March. Currently has 27.9k miles - more than any car I've ever owned.

Below is the list - rounded to nearest dollar. I'm on my 3rd set of tires this week - and have replaced 3 wheels to date (altho kept two that just need to be refinished.)

List on my car was 41,9 - 08 G35S with everything but radar cruise and adapt headlights. But I got a smokin' deal at the time - 36.

I'm done with mods - will prob need shocks at around 40k. Below does not include regular maintenance - oil changes, balances, alignment, etc

Wheels 1753
Front Lip 375
Midnight Grill 400
Rear Spoiler 119
Roof Wrap 303
Fog Lights 110
Fog Install 300
BQuiet 150
Hd/Tail tint 300
Tires 2500 ( 3 sets)
GTSpec(4 pcs) 1038
MGP Caliper covers 350
Brake pads 300
Side Mirror Blinkers 150
BlinkCover Install 300
GT Spec Install 240
Window Tint 299
LED Lights 50
Illum Kickplates 275

Total 9312.

Yes - I'm totally crazy. But I really like my car now - as this is how it should have come from the factory. altho - not nearly as much fun to build. And no one has one EXACTLY like mine.

And still cost less than my 05 545i, my 06 S60R or my 07 Grand Cherokee SRT8. and much more reliable. And better gas mileage.

Will post some pics tomorrow. It's been raining and overcast in LA.

Very nice mod list and definitely sounds like a well setup car, thats the funny thing about modding, since you do it in pieces over time you never realize how much you have actually spent on all these mods until and unless you actually sit down and total em up at the end, i reckon i am close to that figure as well in mods.

Will love to see some pics, especially of the MGP covers, have been thinking about them for myself for a while now, getting tired of the paint chipping off but not sure so far.

Here's a link to see some of the mods...the MGP Covers are on the last page...

https://g35driver.com/forums/g35-sed...c-install.html

I'm taking full shots tomorrow...

If you average the total out...it's less than 250 per month. Would be WAY less if you didn't include the tires and wheels.

^ ya thats not bad at all when you divide it up over a longer period, also i am liking the covers, they wont fade, look nice and will reduce brake dust so i might look into these more seriously now. As for the lettering, did you just type in "I N F I N I T I" in the custom lettering box or did you provide them with a sample picture as er their instructions?

MGP - yes. I don't really like stock painted calipers - with the orange peel. And 1900 for a BBK where - in LA - my average speed is 14 mph is just plain stupid. There is no NEED for a BBK. And the brakes are already upsized with the sport package.

If you look at the quality and detail of the covers...IMO - very worth it to cover what should have been different from the factory.

Really - you should be yelling at Infiniti for not putting the Coupe calipers on the 08S Sedan sport package.

Oh...and it's my 300...I can do whatever I want with it.

Nice post. It is eye-opening to add up all our mods--that's why I don't do it! Maybe like you, I've come to a point where I am now happy with my car and the mod bug is not so strong. I'm just enjoying and maintaining at this point. Doesn't mean I don't like to read about what others are doing here though.

Sorry to hear about your job. That really sucks. I know people at my work (myself included) are very scared about the future. Hope this economy gets better soon!

AudiR8...sorry for the delay.

I got the fogs from JDM i think...it was a year or so ago. Just had them installed.

Basically...they put the car up on a lift. Dropped the plastic sheathing under the front of the car. Then PRECISELY cut a hole in the lower grill (there is no room on the 07/08's on the outer side due to the washer tank on the passenger side - hence me mounting them on the outer part of the center lower grill.) They then created a mounting bracket from MDF and metal and screwed it into the frame.

The wiring just dropped down from the existing fogs...I wanted to use the interior stalk switch...so the electrical part was a breeze.

Does that help?

I did put silbverstar bulbs in the new fogs last week...which are almost obnoxiously bright.

Let me know if you have any more questions.

Stephen
