Squishy Brakes

Ok this could be just me but I just picked up my new to me 2007 G35 Journey with 38000miles on it last night. I love everything about the car except the brakes. There is soooo much initial play before any stopping/slowing occures. I have asked a few people about this and they say thats just how "luxury" cars are and its normal. I am coming off a 05 c6 corvette...and previous to that a 04 BMW... so it could be just me. Is this truly normal? if so how can I change it?

Also anyone know of a great shop local to Orange County, CA?

THANKS!

Any good quality dot4 brake fluid is fine from your local auto store.

Is the fluid simply a bit low? If the pads are quite worn (they will be by 38k mi. unless replaced) you may just need to top it up a wee bit and soon get those pads replaced.

come to think about it. i don't think you need to bleed your system. when i upgraded my breaks, mine is a little squishy but after it warms up it all good.

Brake Bleeding should be done every two years/24000miles. No one ever does it because it's a PITA and the return (a hard pedal, woo ) is hardly noticeable.

What it does get you is cheap insurance to prevent frozen calipers, ABS pump failure and keeping your brakes feeling great.

A motive is ~60 bucks and a quart of brake fluid is 8 bucks at advance. Well worth the cost and you can use the motive on other cars, too. The hardest part is jacking up the car.

Actually, at that kind of mileage, you might just as well do a full fluid change/flush if you're already there with a pressure bleeder.

$.02
