CPO or Not CPO? Plus a Few Other Questions...

Hey guys, I'm new around here. I'm looking at G35 Sports and have a few questions. I bet you've never heard this opening before!!

Is the CPO really worth it? I had a Maxima in the past and absolutely nothing ever went wrong with that thing. Most reliable car I've ever had.

How's the AWD system? I'm in Texas so it's not a must but I had an Audi A4 w/ it and enjoyed it's tenacious grip.

When will the G37 be restyled and how much of difference do you think there will be?

Paddle shifters are a must for me so I can let out my inner Sebastian Vettel. I would love to get some feedback from those that have them.

Lastly, what do you guys enjoy the most about your G35's?

Thank you.

Regarding CPO, it's very much a personal preference. What year is the G, how many miles on it, does it have good service records/well maintained and has it ever been in an accident. How much does the dealer want for the CPO?

This AWD system is great, reliable and trouble free. Being in Texas, I would probably stay away from it though just because it seems unnecessary.

Re-styling in 2014 or 15. It will look much different.

I like everything about my G. Had an 07X 4 years and now the G37S. Still love driving it everyday.

As prior poster says, it depends on year and mileage. I think if the car still has factory warranty and depending on how long (time and miles) CPO adds you may be better off getting without CPO and purchasing Elite.

rpm&my_G35 - I really don't have one specific car picked out right now, so I'm speaking in generalities. I've emailed a couple of Infiniti dealers on a couple of cars, and they're saying I can have the car CPO certified if I want. Not sure if that's money well spent or not. From what they're saying w/out really committing is that it would be $850 minimum.

Oz.Roper - what is Elite?

Also, have any of you guys heard of these cars having any transmission problems. I test drove one here and it seemed like it shifted very hard from 2nd to 3rd under full throttle when I was using the paddles.

Infiniti Elite extended Warranty offered directly by Infiniti. Can be purchased from any dealer in the country but most of us used Infiniti of Scottsdale, AZ or Circle in NJ.

Usually can get a 60mo/60K for between $1700-$2200

LINK to the Scottsdale website

I haven't had any experience with paddle shifters as mine does not have and I've never driven one with.

Oz.Roper - Thanks for the link! Having owned these cars for awhile, do you think that's money well spent? I bought one like that for an '04 C-Class MB, kept the car for 6 years and never used it. And I would think the Infiniti would be a more reliable car.

Thanks.

I'd hate to say "you'll never need the extra warranty" then something major happens to your car. Life is a gamble so it's too personal a decision for us to make, but Infinitis' track record is very good, and the VQ motors are very durable. I'm on my second G and both have been trouble-free (just a couple TSBs that were handled by the dealer). I think the key has been previously mentioned, just take your time and do a thorough search for a clean, well maintained vehicle. Most Infiniti owners take a lot of pride in their vehicles so are typically well maintained. There has been a few cases of excessive oil consumption, so a compression test might not be a bad idea. The seat leather is quite thin so be sure to check the drivers' side seat bolster for any cracking. The paint is also very prone to chipping so if you can find one that has a clear bra already installed that would be a plus, or one without chips probably wasn't driven too hard (maybe )
Be sure to spend decent seat time behind the wheel if you choose between an S or a Journey. Some find the S seats a bit too tight, they have more available adjustments but
can be confining. If you're in Texas I'd just go RWD, both are great cars but RWD is just a bit more of a sport driving setup. The S does get you the bigger brakes, bolstered seats, Limited slip diff, bigger wheels & better tires, paddle shifters so it's a nice upgrade. If you find an exceptional journey you can always add factory paddle shifters. The Gs are pre-wired for them and cost about $250.
Good luck in your search, I'm sure you'll find a nice one.

blnewt - You can add factory shifters?!?!? Is that true for a G37 as well?

You're right, you guys can't make up my mind on whether or not to get a warranty. Really I was just looking for an idea of reliability and any hug $$$ issues that I should be aware of. My bad wording.

Definitely will be looking for an "S".

Thanks for the paint comment. I love black cars but I can be OCD when it comes to my cars and the inevitable swirl marks drive me crazy.

Almost all Gs are pre-wired for paddles but for some reason there has been a few exceptions. Here's info on ordering them~

Just took my G35 V36 sedan out a few times last week - never put winter tires on this year - anyway, I have auto trans and in S mode with VDC off and slightly slick roads paddle shifters would be nice. Might spring for the upgrade this summer. PLaying GT5 makes this even worse.

Is there an easy way to make sure a car is pre-wired for the paddles? I know you said there were only a few exceptions, but it would be just my luck to find the one that isn't and buy it.

Also, will the dealerships do the upgrade? I have trouble changing light bulbs.

I would send rick a PM, email him Rick@PerryInfiniti.com or call 760-294-7082. Since it's being sold at the dealer they should do the install to (just have your gold card ready). Maybe Rick would know how to determine if said vehicle is pre-wired.
