To add to cleric's comment, set the parking brake 'on'. On manual transmission Nissans this is spelled out for the idle relearn but on automatics no one mentions it. I couldn't get the relearn to take even using the NDIS app until I set the parking brake on. Another requirement is the steering wheel being dead-centered. Anything off-center, the power steering pump is "working" and adding a very slight load on the engine.

A mistake I've seen a lot with idle relearns is not having the vehicle in the proper state to perform it, the biggest culprit is not verifying the electric load switch (digital value in the ECM) is turned off. Even something simply like having the door open (or hood on some vehicles) sets the switch to the ON positions and you CANNOT perform the relearn if that switch is on.

just cleaned mine and it never crossed my mind that drive-by-wire could be so finicky... it did take longer than usual to crank and fire up, but looks like throttle response has improved significantly (it did have some carbon buildup). fingers crossed i won't have to take it to the "pros" lol

No, throttle bodies are generally not damaged by a little cleaning and moving.
