Dilemma

I had the drive belt replaced on my 2008 G35x at 60k based on dealer recommendation. I know the old one looked a little "weathered" but certainly not worn.

A few weeks afterwards I was under my hood and saw the "new" belt did not look much different than the old one. I have a little suspicion that it was never replaced but the onus is on me to prove.

How do I breach this with my dealer gently without me looking accusatory??

Look very close at the belt on your G, make sure it shows wear and is dry...old. If it's the same old belt and was never changed the fun part begins...return to the stealership with your paper work in hand. Pop your hood and ask the service manager if you look stupid? Tell him you paid for a new belt and that's exactly what you want. From now on if you're going to the dealership for service try Nissan instead. They have the same parts and charge 30% less and in my opinion their mechanics are better trained!

Try going to the dealership's parts department and having them pull a replacement belt from stock. Look carefully at the belt to see if it has any printing (part #, manufacturer name/code, etc.) somewhere along the smooth side of the belt. Then tell them you've changed your mind and don't want to purchase the belt anymore. Now simply look at your belt and see if you can find the same markings (you may have to use a mirror and rotate the engine a bit to see the entire belt). Unless you have put a good deal of mileage on the new belt, the marks should still be visable.
