Did my first oil change today and noticed an obvious problem!

WTH? What is it, 634 bolts holding the belly pan on?! Anyone ever modify their belly pan to make oil changes easier?

The drain bolt and filter are so close together, it seems like you could just cut out a small (maybe 8"x12") access door, rivet a section of piano hinge on the driver's side, and put a Dzus fastener, or some other type of quick release fastener, on the passenger side and save yourself a lot of time. Release fastener, flap folds down, drain oil, replace filter, re-do fastener...done.

Any reason not to do this??

They have aftermarket undertrays you can buy... If you wanna cut out a bigger access spot then by all means do it... Not too much too think about here...

Yeah, just changed my oil a couple of hours ago. Took way longer to remove the tray than actually drain oil and change filter. Can't imagine that a quick lube place would ever do it correctly.

Take off undertray; don't put back on; change oil in 10 mins.

Goddamn, I'm a genius.

yall know that stock belly pan only required to be taken off in the front and then it bends down to give access to the drain plug and filter, or in the back and then it flips forward. Cant remember exactly it was a long time since I had a stock belly pen on. You don't have to take off entire thing off the car. Might as well change the oil from the sun roof in that case.

Or get aluminum aftermarket under tray with built in door that's held by two little bolts.

Our previous 07 Sedan and our Current 09 Sedan has a crease in the back of the splash pan so you can easily pull it forward to access the oil filter and drain plug. Only 4 bolts to remove.
