Installing Front Akebonos only

Hi all,

2008 G35s 5AT

I am installing only front Akebono calipers and 355mm rotors. Rear will stay stock except for steel braded lines F&R.

Anyone see any problems with this?

Thanks

None at all....No, wait. You'll love the front so much that redoing the rear will be a must.

I guess it depends on what you're trying to accomplish.

If it's looks, then just make sure you get a set of wheels (or wheel spacers) that clear them. They will stop the car OK.

If it is performance you're after, they are not likely to help any. For braking performance, there is very little (if any) difference in performance over the 07-08 Sport brakes which are both cheaper and lighter. For handling performance, they are a much heavier brake setup, especially if you're going with larger wheels (and tires) to clear them, so you actually add a great deal of unsprung weight, as well as rotational weight, which are both terrible for performance. Additionally, your brake biasing will be off, given that the calipers aren't balanced with your remaining proportioning system.

Thanks. I am running Infiniti M56s sport 20" wheels all around.

I know the calipers will fit the wheel with no problems. I may need to cut the brake shield a bit, but otherwise I should have plenty space.

I just need a bit better braking, which I would imagine a 4 piston caliper should bring. Most. Of the braking comes from the front, so I should see a difference as well.

I am using steel braced brake lines in the F & R for better pedal feel.

Thanks for the input.

I have 4 pot Wilwood Superlights in the front only and it's been a good setup, especially since they have such a wide variety of pads available, during aggressive bed-in the fronts had very little fade compared to my smaller OEM brakes during the same bed-in duration.
And yeah, they do look cool in there

I was thinking of going to the Akebono fronts just to avoid the repetitive warping of front rotors on the 07 Sport fronts. It is almost a bi-annual turn or replacement of these rotors. It is my only sore spot concerning this car.

Perhaps this has been discussed already, but can anyone chimed on brake fluid? Infiniti/Nissan use Dot3, I am pretty sure you can also use DOT 4. Of course I am bleeding the entire system first. Has anyone used a DOT 4 fluid? and if yes, what brand? AFE, StopTech, Motul, etc...

Thanks for any input you may have.

Dot 3/4 are the same with 4 having a higher boiling point. Nothing fancy when it comes to fluids unless you track your car.

That's a good way to remove air from the system.

You might want to read this:
http://www.stoptech.com/technical-su...rs/brake-fluid

Basically, water will accumulate in either DOT 3 or DOT 4 fluid, that is a given. Braking performance drop-off is far greater as a result of water accumulation in DOT 4 fluid than it is in DOT 3 fluid, even though DOT 4 fluid performance starts from a higher rating that DOT 3.

DOT 3 will work fine for daily driving, and will tolerate less frequent changing better.

DOT 4 will work fine for daily driving or track, but should be replaced more frequently, as it's performance will drop off more sharply as it ages.
