07 sedan engine fitment

I recently came across a 07 g35 sport sedan with a seized engine. Previous owner went to a quick oil change place and they didn't tighten the drain plug. He made it about 5 miles before it fell out and he apparently didn't notice the light. I've found plenty of engines but for some reason it seems the AWD engines are significantly cheaper than the 2WD ones. Will the AWD engine fit in a 2WD? I know the oil pans are different, but what else would have to be swapped? Found one with 60k miles with a 3 year parts and labor warranty for 1000 plus shipping that's very tempting

I think it's just the upper oil pan, it's got a big hole in the AWD one for the driveshaft to pass through. As long as you already have an HR motor in the car then you have all the pieces you need aside from a rear main seal (you have to remove when taking off the upper pan) and a new crankshaft pilot bushing (replace anytime the engine or transmission are removed it's a $5 part).

HOWEVER, since you're already dealing with an engine out of the car you definitely SHOULD replace the galley gaskets that are prone to fail, they make some aftermarket ones that are not prone to failure.

If that's the only difference i can't justify an extra 2 to 4 hundred dollars for an engine with more miles. I had already planned on replacing the rear main and oil pan half moon seals at the very least. Didn't think about the galley gaskets, but that is definitely on the list now. I'm ready to drive this thing. Has the premium package and tech package. It's definitely nicer and more comfortable than my 350z.

Ok. Now I'm confused. I talked to my mechanic this week, who normally seems pretty knowledgeable going from my past dealings with him. He's saying the AWD engine will only work in an AWD car. I haven't been able to find a difference other than the previously mentioned upper oil pan. Have i just stepped into unfamiliar territory for him, or is there more to it than that? He didn't elaborate why it wouldn't work if i switched oil pans. If he wasn't the one i had planned on doing the swap i wouldn't be so worried about it

Your mechanic is mistaken, upper and lower oil pan stuff is the only difference (pretty sure oil pump pickup and windage plate are the same but even if they're not you already have a set on your existing motor). He's probably just never taken them apart is all.

Here's a comparison photo of the HR RWD and AWD pans, you can see the shaft going through the middle of the pan in the AWD one for the driveaxle.

Found a engine. 07 model with 130,000 miles. Besides the rear main, the gallery gaskets, and thermostat, any recommendations on things i should replace while it's out?

While the chain is off doing the galley gaskets you should replace the primary tensioner, might as well toss a new water pump in too. Might think about an entire timing chain kit since it's already going to be disassembled.
