Water Pooling Under Batter In Rain - Effects Circuitry

When it rains heavy, Ive noticed that there is water pooling underneath the battery, It never caused any issued since the first time I noticed it a few years ago. Recently though when it rained it seems to have messed the circuits causing the VDC light and some others to randomly come on. Checked the breaks and they are like new, this problem only occurs in the rain. I took a picture when it was dry but you can see some pine needles down there. The draining system seems strangely designed to poor water around a circuit board and some wires that aren't totally covered in electrical tape. Any thoughts on what I should do? One mechanic that looked so far was clueless. Thanks a million!

This same issue has happened to about a million other people. Its the IPDM that gets wet and goes haywire.

Thnx mate. This car has so many super common issues 😅 The solutions were super spotty but far my plan is to cover everything I can with electrical tape and drill some holes in the battery bay. If anyone has any other tips Im all ears!

Mostly it's just making sure to clean the 15 years of debris out of the factory drains.

How do I do that exactly? Stick a mop down there? 😂

I just use brake cleaner, a bottle brush, and a hose. Once you remove the battery there's a lot of room. I don't use a sprayer on the hose, just the water flowing from it. If it starts pooling then let it drain down, fish around with the bottle brush and brake cleaner the F out of everything until the gunk is gone.

Perfect, thank you! Not sure why people drill holes in the battery tray, the battery just gonna block it. I was also gonna cover some of the circuitry with some electrical tape but Im worried it could melt in the summer. Too much?

Use 3M Super 33+ electrical tape, it's the industry standard and it definitely won't melt. Stretch it fairly tight (it's really stretchy) and it gives a good moisture resistant seal.

The tape is not really necessary though, keep the drains clear and it won't pool up.

Battery tray itself shouldn't ever be filling with water, that only happens if the cowl drains get clogged and it pours off the front of the cowl cover.

Uh oh. Thanks for the tip, while it was sunny I cleaned the drain, there was alot of soil and even a loose screw in there. I test drove the car after and it was working fine. I let the car sit in the rain the next couple days thinking it would be okay, went to start it and the battery was dead. Charged the battery and started the car and then.. It wont accelerate over 30-40mph! Shortly after trying driving it around for awhile for VDC/Slip lights come on. I assume the rain still got to the relays, but even worse this time! Theres some sun out right now so Im trying to dry it out but its gonna start raining again soon and no mechanics around here have availability for weeeks! Any ideas? I was thinking about changing out the throttle relay.

Also after dc the battery and letting it sit in the sun, the problem still exists and now the break lights wont turn off. I have an appointment with the dealership on Friday, gonna cost me a million bucks 🥶

So after everything dried out more everythings been working more as less as normal. Im still trying to figure out what is going on! The tail lights wouldnt turn off and then started to flicker after the last rain fiasco. You think the IPDM is still getting wet or maybe its water in another area? Not sure how I investigate where the issue is if no water is actually coming into the car.
