Some buttons no longer working door locks and windows

I recently acquired a 2008 G35. About a week ago, I was using the button on the handle to unlock the doors for my family to get into the car and it *beep-beep-beep* fussed at me – not sure why, or if this is somehow the root of my problem.

Since then, however, the buttons on the driver’s door armrest have stopped working properly. My symptoms:
  • The button on the outside of the door handle locks and unlocks all the doors properly. (One press unlocks the driver’s door; two presses unlocks all doors.)
  • The button on the fob locks and unlocks all doors.
  • The button on the driver’s door armrest does NOT lock or unlock any doors.
  • The button on the driver’s door armrest rolls the driver’s window up and down.
  • The button on the driver’s door armrest does NOT roll the other windows up and down.
  • Individual buttons on the passenger doors do NOT roll the other windows up and down.
  • Individual buttons on the passenger doors do NOT lock or unlock doors.
  • Holding down the button on the fob does NOT roll down any of the windows.
So the locks work, but only from some places. Only the driver's window rolls up/down and only from the inside button - not from the fob.

Have I accidently entered a weird locking code? It seems like if the arm rest buttons had broken, the driver's window would no longer work.

Any hints on what might be wrong? TIA.

Your mom's boyfriend
Simple stuff first. I'd swap the door panel buttons from a junker.

Most junkers will let you return defective parts if they don't work, so it won't cost you anything.

It's not uncommon for wires to break inside the flexible loom section where the door connects to the chassis. All the other door switches (rear and passenger) talk to the driver panel, the driver panel talks directly to the BCM to control window/lock function.

The door key lock switch to roll up/down window is a separate circuit to the BCM, the key fob to roll down windows is a separate circuit to the BCM that doesn't even go through the door.

Firstly, I would disconnect the battery, remove the door switch, and just physically inspect it for any issues, particularly the wiring harness on the back, unplug it and look for corrosion, plug it back in, plug the battery back in, see if it works again.

That's why the frayed wire theory seemed unlikely to me. Why doesn't the key fob roll the windows down?

Yeah I think it's time to start ringing out those door wires to see if some are broken.
