So just ran into an issue with my 2007 G35 sedan, just replaced the battery now I got no start, no key recognition. I've got brake lights, power seats and telescopic/tilt steering and that's it. Steering wheel is locked up, I pulled the steering lock fuse and put it back in and it started up not once but twice so I know it's not the BCM or ECU. Now it won't start up at all I did the research and I think it all points to the steering lock module. I've got no power to the top half of the IPDM/fuse box, I think that's what yall call it. But when I power it with the Power probe my dash lights up but the steering wheel is still locked. If I could get some help or suggestions on this problem that would be awesome cause I'm sure somebody else has ran into a similar situation. Could it be the fuse box or the steering lock module? Plus included in the picture where is the steering lock module? I've looked all over youtube and it's rectangular box looking thing? But there's nothing even similar to that under here. Please and Thank You in advance!
can of worms... My steering lock sometimes doesn't lock at all when i open the door to get out and sometimes it does. Eventually, i'll turn the ignition on, let it unlock and remove that motor so it don't lock again.. These cars can be stolen within 2 minutes, so why bother with a steering lock?
Your steering lock might be retiring like mine; Can you scan the car for codes?
Can't even get it to power on now, so I'm thinking it might be the steering lock and I'm going to do the bypass trick with the microswitches. But where is the steering lock on this car. Cause it looks like nothing from what I've seen online underneath my steering column.
That photo is of the steering lock mechanism. The BCM controls all power as soon as you press the Start button. What happens when you insert eh key fob in the key slot below the trunk lid switch?
The reason for the 'can of worms' is about the snowball effect when it comes to these cars as one thing leads to another and so on. Most issues are power related (poor grounds, corroded plugs, wet BCM from plugged up roof drains) and many more. Here, get your Factory Service Manual and dig in as online diagnosis is pretty much just that..

I will assume your battery is new, the terminals are clean and tight and the fuses on the positive line are not blown (the ones on the fuse block by the battery).
