alternator not charging?

I have a 07 G35x... a few weeks ago the alternator went out, sypmtoms I had: battery light, brake light and no throttle response unless in park or neutral. I replaced it with a used one that only lasted about 2 weeks or so. every since then I have put 2 more used alternators (both tested good at the local AutoZone ) but nothing will keep the battery charged. I have replaced the connector and the battery but she still will not charge, I've been thinking about putting a new belt on it but I doubt that will help.. I've seen other forums of this same issue where the owner just kept putting new alternators on until one seemed to work. I need help. someone please help me. I have a dealer level scan tool if that helps.

are all the g alternators interchangeable or no?

I also have a surging idle issue that came after cleaning TB and installing K&N intakes but I'm more concerned of the voltage issue at the moment.

also I left off the little metal on the back where the harnnes clips on.. dose that have any effects on the alternator?

what's it showing voltage wise at idle and driving around? there is not much to it, if all the connections are good and the belt is spinning the alt.

Had this issue on a replacement. there are two sizes that fit, I believe a 50 and 100 amp, you need the larger. I have an S with touring package.

I don't think its charging at all, my autel im508 says it has 12 volts when not on... after I start it voltage only goes lower until it completely dies.

what is the brand and part number of the alternator? i think what is happening is the stores are selling you a 110amp for the 2007 coupe. should be a 150 amp one like the poster had mentioned. when shopping for parts, i normally put/say 2008 G35, just to avoid stuff like this.

I haven't got one from a parts store yet I have only tried ones from a salvage yard... one if them dose have a Nissan sticker but I can hardly see the part number. also my battery light doesn't come on when I put ignition in the run or start position.

Correct, the lower amperage alternator I brought from AutoZone fit but didn't supply the power needed for all the accessories. Perhaps it was just the wrong replacement for my model. It charged but when my daughter had multiple phones plugged in, the heated seats on, and what ever else she was doing, It burned it out within months.

hello vq owners.... my issue turned out to be the alt connector, I had replaced it do to it breaking apart and placed 2 wires in the wrong spot....if you had replaced the connector make sure it is wired correctly...........also if you don't have a battery light with ignition on engine off you have a wiring issue to the dash light or voltage regulator is bad (replace alternator )..... good luck to evb I have a coolant leak now coming from driver side near middle of engine bay .... anything helps

good job! the coolant leak could be either the thermostat gasket/etc. or the water pump taking a dump. do you see the coolant dripping off the oil pan/a/c compressor area? hopefully it's something simple, but if the car is nearing 200k, could be the wp. inspect all the coolant hoses running from the throttle bodies to the rear of the head(s) as well. those will break and leak at some point. i loathe the cooling design on this car lol

yeah, that's exactly the mileage mine took a dump. it's still pumping, but the seal(s) are shot, so it's dumping out of the weep hole. it still could be something else, so jack her up and inspect. if it is the WP, you will see it trickling out of the rear cover opening right around where the a/c compressor mounts to the block. mine was really bad once it let go, and i wasn't able to drive it around at all.

here is my thread and overview of the issue and how i fixed it: https://g35driver.com/forums/g35-sed...45k-clock.html

the original engine ended up snapping the driver side intake camshaft at 277k miles post WP repair, so lasted about 30k. I still have all the OEM parts (main chain, tensioner, guides, wp, metal galley gaskets, etc.) if you want to undertake this repair. could sell them cheap.

I've since swapped a JDM drivetrain in 'er: https://g35driver.com/forums/g35-sed...-swap-log.html
