AT automatic transmission dipstick location

Where in the heck is it? I have 2005 automatic. It's not anywhere in the owners manual. It specifies every other fluid location but that.

If you are looking at the engine from head on look to the back left of the plenum. It is tucked in that corner just to the right of the battery "casing". It requires i believe a 10 or 15 mm socket to take the bolt off that holds the dipstick in place.

thanks.. i found this..

Behind the engine, slightly to towards the passenger's side, near the firewall. See the tranny tube sticking up. Remove the 10mm bolt securing the dipstick.
Make sure you use factory Nissan fluid, nothing else.

You can just unscrew the existing handle and see if there is a dipstick attached to the end. In all honesty, trying to read the transmission fluid level according to the directions is very difficult.

It's not that bad in daylight. Early sedans did not have a dipstick. You can get a measuring stick from the dealer I think though.

After reading the FSM, I agree - and you have to have special equipment. But if you just measure how much you drain and fill it with the exact same amount, you're fine correct?

I think I remember reading if you drain/fill you will use 5-6 qt. of Matic-J.

^ That is how I've done my drain/fills. Just replace the old fluid with the same amount that drained. Both times I've done it about 4 quarts drained from the pan. I suggest letting the tranny cool off throughly so that you are measuring cold vs. cold fluid.
