Use pliers, grab the cable that is left. Otherwise the seat should drop down and you can go from there. If you are in a sedan you are gonna have a tough day.

After a lot of use of the trunk, I noticed it was only working intermittently. Turns out crimps aren't worth it, and now I have a soldering gun, cut the crimps and soldered - the only way to do it right.

Some advice for people with cut wires on trunk lid. If your trunk will still not pop pull the kicker panel on the front driver side locate harness and green/white wire. There are 2 of them so make sure u get the right one. Nip the green/white wire and nip both wires on the trunk switch leave some tail and get 12v from the fuse box run it to the red wire on the switch run the black wire twards the green/white wire twards the trunk. Will work like a charm. Don't own one just fixed one. You will loose the fob option but will have reliable way to open trunk

It really is easy just to sort through the bundle of wires to the trunk and repair the ones that are damaged though. No need to run a new circuit and remove vehicle functionality.

Mine has failed, this will be the third repair job. Have not taken apart yet, but may have to dig into the cab, as the two previous repair jobs found the break deeper into the car than the previous repair, it is the crappy wire that they have used.

For ****s sake. Mine has broken again. It happened somewhere else in the wires too. This is driving me bonkers. Thinking of pulling the harness and stuffing it back after electrical taping the whole rear harness!

I find that the main issues when the trunk stops opening is the two black wires within your harness on the right side of your trunk.
I took 24g wire and reconnected both wires and it works great now.
Took 10 minutes to repair. Cost about $10

Part of the issue could well be the conductor not being flexible enough to withstand the rigors of time. They do make high strand count wire that is rated to be more flexible than standard automotive GPT wire.

Took mine 2 years to break. Now I have to get in the trunk from the back seat. Can confirm, really annoying!

I'll have to solder it in again soon.
